Hi all. Has anyone tried wire wheels, yet? I was looking at Daytons and thought they may be cool. Any reasons why they may not fit or drive correctly? Thanks for any comments!

To have wire wheels won't you have to get it slammed a couple of inches and get a chain steering wheel?? Maybe a gold flake paint job too!!

Sorry, couldn't resist...

No apologies necessary. Thanks for your input.

Actually, instead of gaudy I thought of the wires more as a reference to the wheel style of British cars from the 50s and 60s, such as Jaguar. Triumph and Austin-Healy. Some of the traditional spoke designs can be pretty classy looking on a stock MINI. I think they were not commonly used on the Austin Mini because it used a 10 inch rim.

I have never seen wires on a Mini . Wire wheels are a pain in the neck when they need trued and balanced (a lost art ).

if you do Dayton's (or other wire wheels) just PLEASE get the "correct" offsets and width. I would be horrified to see a MINI skateboarded out

Don't let those skeptics put you down. I had Daytons with knock off hubs on my '62 Corvair Turbo and they looked great. No Runflats on these and you will need very strong inner tubes. Good Luck. Send me a picture!

ord,

Welcome to MCO!

I actually have seen a picture of the MINI with the really tacky gold wires, but you don't want that garish sight on your car!

I appreciate the vintage throw-back (check out the tag I go by), but as far as the new MINI goes, the cornering would probably bend the heck out of an old set of knock-offs. I think the MINI does tribute better with just a Union Jack on the roof, some bonnet stripes, and a set of Monte lights - that third center mount light sure would be cool (if it didn't directly block the flow to the intercooler)!

Good luck in your quest. I certainly think it would be unique, and that's what the MINI is all about!

Randy
