Wheels & Tires for street / autocross

I'm looking for some advise on which tires & wheels would work well for mostly street use and the occasional autocross (G stock).

I would like to find a BBS type wheel that is lighter than the stock 17's I have on my 04 MCS.

I've got Konig helium's - 16.2 lbs each, $133 each. Wrapped 'em in Faulken Azenis, which are great for autocross and not too bad on the street.

Keep in mind, to be stock legal, you will need to be on a 17x7 or a 16x6.5 with an offset of +42 to +54. The most important thing is what the tire choices are in either rim size and I think you will find a wider choice of good tires in 16's and the wheels are usually lighter too.

Thanks for all the good advise everyone!

I finally chose the ASA AR1 wheels w/ Michelin Pilots.(215-45-17)

I can believe what a difference these wheels and tire have made, the ride is so smoooth and the tires grip is fantastic!

Any bottoming out problems? I have some Kumhos and on certain bumps at a certain speed I hear scraping in the rear. Not very severe but just enough to let you know it's there.

Normally with stock suspension and 215/45-17 tires you should not have rubbing or bottoming out problems if the load in the MINI is within normal limits.

If you have a lowered MINI then the 215/45-17 tires have been know to rub in the rear with bumps at highway speeds and four people in the car or with normal cornering. It's not severe. I've had rubbing like this for both Yokohama ES100 and Bridgestone Potenza S-03 in that size with 1" lower suspension and about 200 pounds of back seat passengers (2 kids). I don't get the rubbing with only one or two people in the car.

Yes, the rear tires occasionally rub and my car is at the stock height. I've never had four people in the car before..but I have had three on several occasions. It did scrape with two passengers on the highway but only in one section of the highway and once or twice corning with my wife in the car. She's real heavy..about 100lbs.

It probably depends on the offset of the rims and width of the tires. Mine are 42 and the tires are Kumho MXs.
