Bridgestone Driveguard tires Good or Bad

I need to replace my tires on my 09 MCS. My neighbor suggested the Bridgestone Driveguard and was told by a local tire shop they are one of the best RF. Does anyone have these tires on there Mini and do you like them? I'm open to suggestions on other tires. My tire size is 205/45 17 and I'm looking for an A/S tire.

I think they are better handling than the Pirelli OEM's I had. It could be that the prior owner beat the crap out of those in 6,000 miles.

But they are still pretty noisy and you get a rough feedback experience. I will probably go non RFT next time to see how much different it is.

I've been reading a lot of other threads and it seems like other owners are switching to non RF's. I came across Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 which is an A/S and there the same price as the Bridgestone Driveguard

The Bridgestone's are one of the roughest riding tires I've had on a vehicle. That's the reason I have mine sitting on a shelf in the garage. Do yourself a favor and put non-RFs on your Mini and carry a 12-volt compressor and patch kit.

I already have the 12v mini compressor and patch kit which I keep in my Z3M coupe. So I'm going to switch it over to the MCS. I rarely drive the Z and has become a garage queen.

There are so many good tires available in non runflat. The 215/45R17 gives you many more options than the 205 - I just went with some General GMAX AS05s and am quite pleased. General is owned and manufactured by Continental. I've also run many Continental tires on other cars, always great.

I just looked up when I bought the DWS 06 for the Countryman. The car has put on 30,000 miles since install but June - Nov the snows are on. Tires really don't have more than one season left, so they don't really last very long on the heavy CM.

That is the same thing owners are saying about Bridgestone Driveguard, only lasting 30K. Is there really a tire out there that last more then 30K, With out losing performance in an A/S??

I have them on 16" rims and the ride comfort versus stock continentals is night and day. Concrete blocks to almost non-runflat comfort. Seems 17" rims on mini is very harsh and you have to go non-runflat to get any relief.

Have them as they came on the car, I hate them. They are noisy, heavy, don't grip all that well in the dry, and have awful wet handling characteristics.

I have a set of 16 inch wheels that I'm most likely going to run with ZII Star Specs or RE-71Rs in the (hopefully) near future.

If you are going after a non run flat a/s look into the Bridgestone re980 as. Also with the camber set up on most European cars your not going to get much more then 30k out of any tire

Everything is relative I guess. The stock RF continentals were not only rough riding, but had poor dry handling and downright scary in the rain. And cost way more to replace than the driveguards (Costco sale FTW).

GOOD, I have them on my 2012 mcs, I bought it this last January from a Mercedes dealership and if I had noticed that it had Bridgestone Driveguard RF's I would have paid extra just to change them out, on smooth sweeping turns they do really well, but on rough sweeping turns they scare me, there just to stiff of a tire, plus they suck for autocross which I just started, hope doing that will wear them out faster.
Other than that I love my mcs.

roger that, the sidewalls may give a little better turn in but the added weight bouncing around is not ideal. i dont autox so being able to drive on a flat tire already saved me once.

I agree that there are good cases for run flats. Mrs doesn't autocross and isn't a particularly aggressive driver at all and runflats have allowed her to get home once and at least off I-95 safely another time when she trashed a tire (big bolt one time thru tread, cut sidewall another).

I just put driveguards on her R59 replacing the conti's which were worn ..... for the record the driveguards have a 60,000 mile wear limited warranty. If you eat them in 30k and DON'T track the car you should get some $ back .....

are they as sticky as a non rf, max performance summer tire? Heck no ...... but she's not at all interested in messing with plugs, slime or pumps and isn't even all that crazy about waiting for AAA to show up who probably can't do much anyway as their standard service is to change the tire using your spare . . .

Hey, I've been strolling through posts about tires and noticed you have or had these GMax tires.. I have the opportunity to get a set of 4 17"wheels with these tires from someone on Facebook. We're you happy with them? I have a 2016 S (standard suspension) with 16" runflats and the stiffer sidewall actually helps with steering response and keeping the car from wallowing too much in corners. I just wanna make sure these wouldn't be too soft and floaty feeling. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thanks so much..

Drive Guards

Just switched to B DG from the absolute **** OEM Hankook Optimos. Definitely a softer ride. Sorry, no more tire changing for me. After years of owning BMW's with run flats, I had to change a friends tire in the rain with my Sciatica acting up. NEVER again.
