Fitment concern

What’s going on guys I’m planning on buying a new set of wheels and tires for my 06 MCS, wheel wise I have my eye on a set of Rota RB 16x7 +40... that’s where I have some questions/concerns. Is the offset +40 too aggressive?? Or will I be able to clear it and have very little rubbing issues ? Tire wise I’m planning on running a 205/40/16 and I am on coil overs as well

16x7 +40 with a 205/40-16? You should be fine. That’s a tiny tire!

Compared to OEM 16" wheels and tire-

Your wheels will be 1.7mm further from inner suspension and poke out 14.4mm more which is fine.

205/40-16 is 50mm smaller in tire diameter.
At tirerack there aren't many tires in this size
Riken Raptor ZR A/S Ultra High Perf All Season tire Treadwear 300
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=233
Not for wet
$78 each, fits 7-8" wide rims, perfect for 7.5" wide rim, tire diam. 22.4"

Falken Azenis RT615+ Extreme Summer tire Treadwear 200
$126 each, Used mainly for track or road course, not as soft rubber vs track tire, noisy and firm riding, wears fast.
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=234
Not the fastest for autocross, can be used on street, not as good in wet

You have other tire sizes to choose from, 22.4" tire diameter gives you more clearance if you are dropped more than one inch. OEM is 24.3". But you have much less road clearance and will risk scraping over driveways, parking bump stops and speed bumps.

16x7 ET40 is actually very conservative. Most people run 16x7.5 or 16x8 ET40 without issues and lowered. You'll be on the safe side. I would run a spacer to flush it out and it still should not rub. Good luck!

Man, I love those wheels! I particularly like the charcoal-colored ones. And, they appear to be a bargain at that price. They look a lot like the Minilites that folks used to run on the original MINIs back in the day.

Was able to find a set of wheels locally that I’ve had my eyes on for a while and for sooo much cheaper, Ultralite 17x7.5 +42 will be adding a spacer in the future to give it a tighter and flusher (if that’s even a word lol) look and plan on going lower as well 😁
