Brake pad mixing ?
Brake pad mixing ?
Has anyone tried mixing pads, per caliper ?
That is, one brand pad on the inside and one brand on the outside.
Back when I had a mid 9 second drag race car, and before the rule for front brakes, I had a bit of a problem being happy with the brake pads available at the time.
So, I tried a bunch of different pads. Getting frustrated, I tried a soft pad and a hard metallic pad per wheel, worked very nicely.
I know drag racing and road racing have different characteristic requirements, but I was just curious if anyone has given this a try.

never
nope
I wouldn't even mix sides on an axle .... left different from right
would be like changing one side but not the other on an axle ... bad idea
different on each axle (front / rear) yes .... been here .... but 'within' an axle ... nope

I read it that way the first time
no way
I was just pointing out other combinations I'd find equally BAD
look at it this way ...
if this is a good idea why is it they only sell pads in COMPLETE SETS?

What he said: no way. I would only go to different pads per AXLE if I was trying to balance front-rear braking. If you don't like how a pad works, try a different compound, there are plenty of choices available. Don't try mixing compounds.
Experimentation..! With a little care...the key to...learning something new.
Worked well for me, Made my car stop better than the available pads at the time did. Kept me out of the sand trap !
What harm could it possibly do..?
