I did a search and couldn't find previous posts -- though I apologize if you've all been asked this over and over and over.

I have the original run-flats on my '13 S Coupe with 10,000 miles. The ride is harsh and I'm looking to fix that.

What tires would you recommend?

I appreciate any helpful suggestions.

 

 

Go to Tirerack.com and surf the tire brands and types. Each has a performance description which should be as informative as any. Lots of opinions abound. I've run many different brands and types over the years and have never found a favorite except some years ago with Toyo 800 which they don't make anymore.

They are 16" stock tires/rims.

Summer tires, yes.Dry grip is important, comfort too; tread life less important, cost a bit less so.

I'm looking for a great ride.

 

 

 

I have an F56, 2015, which I bought used with 16" 195/55 Hankook Optimo 4-something All-season RFTs. They were down to 4 mm of tread at 29,500 miles. They were harsh riding and noisy, but the steering response was so good that the rest didn't matter.

On the advice of Tire Rack and after reading favorable posts from MINI drivers, I replaced them with Bridgestone Drive Guards. They are classed as Grand Touring all-season RFTs, and in the past on another care I found that I was not so hard core as to endure ultrahigh performance summer Continentals. In the first few hundred miles on the Drive Guards I have been disappointed with the steering response to the point that the better ride and increased quiet don't matter. I also have a BMW X3, and there I am using summer and winter tires, and I may have gotten spoiled. We'll see. For the moment I want to spend more time with the Drive Guards.

I suppose that the message in my experience is that every tire is a compromise. If you like what I like, the Hankooks could be the right choice.

 

OK, for 16" stock wheels you can choose these common tire sizes 195/55-16 (for runflats but they ride harshly), 205/50-16 and 205/55-16

These Ultra High Performance All Season tires are good in dry or wet, wear longer and have good handling with good comfort. Max Summer tires will wear faster, some are comfortable, handle better, and offer better tire selection in 17" sizes.

For 205/55-16 prices range from about $112 to $140 each

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ and Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 are leaders, Bridgestone RE980AS is the new tire, Cooper Zeon RS3 G1 is a budget best buy.

If you have costco membership, then Pilot Sport A/S 3+ might be available to order and they run specials for $70 off a set of 4 tires and have good rates on mounting and balancing plus free rotations, road hazzard for flats and air fill up.

 

For stock 16x6,5" wheels it's better to stick to stock size tires 195/55, just non-runflats. 205/50 and 205/55 will also work fine, they have their pros and cons.

I have a 17 F57 S convertible and replaced the stock 16" Pirelli P-Zero runflats at 14k miles. The final straw was a second tread face punctureI. Thats more tire problems than I'd had in in nearly 200k miles w/ one Nissan Atima and two Honda Accords. I didn't think the Pirellis rode overly harsh but didn't like how they handled and of course the durability issue. Long story short I replaced them w/ Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ in the stock 195/55/16. Night and day in handling and ride was a little softer. Choices of 16" high performance tires in stock sizes IMHO are limited. When the Michelins A/S 3+ are due to be replaced I'm moving up to 17" wheels and 205/45/17 Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

I personally think the new runflats aren't that bad and serve a purpose. If my wife drove the car daily it would still have runflats and stock suspension on it. But I drive it, so its modded a bit.
