TPM help!

I have a '12 R58 S Coupe that I got in June. I just put my snow tires on this weekend. I guess these wheels don't have TPM sensors. (My previous MINI had FTM, but not TPM.)

I made the mistake of hitting the 'reset' button in the TPM settings.

Now it's been "resetting" for 3 days.

Is there any way to turn this off?! I figured there MUST be some way to override it, or that it would eventually time out... but the manual makes it look like that might not be possible?!

Or am I going to have to drive around with warning lights on for the next 5+ months? (or buy a whole new set of wheels, just to turn it off)

Thanks!!

So your snow tires/wheels set doesn't have sensors? Yes you will have a light on until you get sensors back on the car. The reset should time out eventually, so many miles or key cycles.

You will be stuck with a warning light till you gets sensors/go back to the old rims.
Sensors are required by law on cars produced after 2007...so if the system has a fault, like not recieve the psi readings from the sensors, a light be set. You can try a piece of tape to cover the light....a dry erase majic marker can darken it a bit....
Check to see if the rims you got included the tpms stems...they are $$$, and you might need a tool to synic them to the car...would hate to hear you paid for them and got either bad ones/nonworking ones....

My old car was an '03 MCS, so it was pre-TPM sensors. So I'm using the snows from that car. The tires are only a season old, but the wheels are older. They're MINI wheels, and when I put them in the wheels showed up green on the TPM settings, so I thought maybe they did have sensors after all... But if they still say "resetting" after 3d, and I know pressures are fine, I'm assuming that means I don't have sensors. Can you have sensors installed or is it better to just get new wheels?

You can buy a set of sensors/stems and have them installed in your current wheels. I had trouble finding a shop that would install the sensors that I ordered through OutMotoring. They all wanted me to buy sensors from them. It ended up being ~$300 for sensors and install, so it's not exactly cheap. I got tired of the warning light being on all winter, and since the tires are runflats, I was worried that my wife would end up with a flat and not realize it for awhile.

What wheels are they? Some of the older wheels may not support the addition of sensors.

Pretty sure you can get the sensors. Tire rack should sell them. Just add them to those wheels and you should be good to go. The system will sync once you tell it to. I have different summer and winter tires and wheels and just bought the proper sensors for the new wheels.

New sensors are kinda $$$ for the mini...
imo, since tge new tires are not runflats, save the $$, and just check your tires like folks have done for the last century...
rim compatibility with tpms depends on the placement of the valve stems....
And you will have to have the old tires unmounted the valve stems/tpms installed, remounted, then rebalanced...and pay to buy the tpms...and (not sure there a a few different mini tpms floating around...go figure) you may need yo pay $$ to sync the new sensors to computer, then back when you swap them in the spring....gotta love rules/regulations.

I believe the wheels are the standard OEM 17" wheels from an '03 MCS. (S-lites maybe? i forget what they were called). How do I know if I can put sensors in them? Maybe I should just go to Tire Rack and ask...

a quick check says the TPMS sensors are about $70 each...
http://www.tpmsdirect.com/Mini_TPMS_Sensors_s/41.htm

Or thru this vendor...might actually be BETTER pricing!! Check or call...the sensors do vary based upon production date.

Yup, that rim. I'll check your link, thanks. I emailed the dealer in the meantime... and this is what I got back "I don’t see any why they shouldn’t fit inside your wheels. The parts alone are $426.89 (including tax). We would have to dismount the tires from the wheels to install the sensors and depending on if they are run flats or regular tires the labor varies. Labor for a regular tire would be $160 and run flat tires would be $240."

So... >$1000 for 4 non runflat wheels?
