16" or 17" wheels for Mini Coupe S?
I'm ripping my hair out trying to find something that looks cool with the Coupe's goofy shape around the back end. I've considered these two for each size...
16" : Kosei K4R
17" : Sparco Asseto Gara
What are the benefits of having a 16" wheel over a 17"?
What I'm looking for is something that has a wider offset than stock, is more comfortable and better performing than runflats, and fills the empty void of the tire well.
I'm also wanting to get some Vmaxx coilovers to lower the car a bit. Anyone have any advice? D:

In the case of those two wheels, the 16" wheels are 5.5# lighter each than the 17" wheels. But the 16" wheels also cost more.
Assuming that you maintain OE tire diameter, neither wheel would help fill in the tire well. Lowering with coil-overs should help fill the gap.
Instead of changing wheel offset (which I'd actually prefer), you could move the wheels out some with spacers.

Actually, I wouldn't change the offset to more than 5 mm from stock (48 mm), but that's because I'd want to autocross in SCCA stock classes, which limit offset change from stock to 5 mm. In that case, I'd get the Kosei K4R wheels because they would be legal for SCCA stock classes (and also light weight), with an offset of only 3 mm less than stock.
For someone wanting to move the wheels out (instead of reducing unsprung weight or being stock legal), the Sparcos you mentioned move the wheels out 9 mm more than stock (offset of 37 rather than 48). Some here move the wheels out even farther (with offsets or spacers), increasing negative camber to the point where the outside tops of the tires are about flush with the fender lip, while the outside bottoms of the tires lie outside the vertical plane of the fender opening. I've seen offsets posted here of less than 30 mm.
It might be better to do your lowering with the coil-overs before selecting new wheels in order to see exactly how much room you have left to work with to get the exact look you want.

I think I'm going to go ahead and do that. That seems like a safe bet. Thanks for the help. Also, does less offset mean the wheels sit out further or more inside?
Hehe I totally agree. However, with my last experience with having the chrome trim being blacked out I think I'll pass on anything related to body work for a while. Car was in the shop close to a month and these guys messed up so much **** on my car.. and they were supposed to be the best custom car shop in the area.
