Plasti Dip Spray on Chrome Wheels

Picked up a set of R81 Imola "Holies" to AutoX with in H-Stock. They are chrome with corrosion in the valley of the wheels between the 7 hole surface and the flat surface out to the lip. Since the chrome is good on the flat surface out to the lip I'm inspired by this general look from an old 2007 Show Me Your Orange Wheels!!! thread:

IIRC many here have had good luck with the Plasti Dip rubberized spray paint in the past. They now make it in Blaze Orange. Here's a video of wheels being coated with it:

One thing I like about the Plasti Dip is that I can spray it right onto the cleaned and degreased chrome without having to scuff it up (some/many claim...), but unclear if it will be glossy enough for me?

I'm curious if anyone has tried the Blaze Orange yet? How dull is it?

Would I be better off just using something like Safety Orange Rustoleum or some other standard orange paint (possibly an acrylic enamel) and coat it with Dulpicolor Wheel Clear? Anyone know what kind of paint the Duplicolor Clear is? Couldn't find it on their website.

What standard paint would stick to the chrome best without scuffing it up just in case I want to remove it?

If the blaze colors are not Glossy enough they also offer a "Glossifier" that you can put on after to remove the Matte Finish. Dipyour.com

Plastidip will stick fine. Its bright orange, but not glossy. Think of an orange tshirt for example, but rubber.
There's also a plastidip glossifier, I've never tried it, but I've heard it does what it says.

Good to know. Thx!

Anyone have experience with the Glossifier? Rubberized clear coat seems odd, but... Is it a hard clear coat over a the rubberized paint product or something that desolves and mixes with the color coat to gloss it out?

Also, how bumpy (non-smooth) is this product. I know some here have used the black.

I plastidipped my handles on my Z33 and tried the glossifier but I didn't like the feel of it. It is very tacky. It doesn't make it any more bumpy then regular plastidip. Looks fine but not as glossy as regular clear coat.

With wheels as simple as hollies. You can very easily wrap them with vinyl. It will look and been glossy, and wayyyy easier to clean.
I guess just sand down the corrosion and make it smooth to help it stick properly. Vinyl is very easy to work with, some people are discouraged by it.

Never done vinyl, so I am afraid of it like many others. I have seen nice glossy vinyl stripes and the nice thing about this idea is I can use the same vinyl orange color to do stripes, wheels and maybe mirror caps, so they'd all match.

That's not too bumpy, but I think I'd like smooth and glossy better though. The "glossifier" just seems like an afterthought for those that complained about the dull finish. If it's sticky like BayStateDetailing found and what I'd think almost any shinny rubber surface would be, then I can't imagine it standing up to brake dust very well. I'd think it would eat into it

I went to every local auto parts store today, but not one carried the Plasti Dip Spray. Home Deput had both the Dip and Spray, but only in black.

To be honest I'm leaning towards Rustoleum Etching Primer, then Orange Rustoleum Acrylic Enamel or their Hemi Orange 500* Engine Enamel, and maybe a final coat of clear too. Autozoners has Rustoleum spray cans on sale 2 for $10.

I think the general Orange Acrylic Enamel is a softer orange than Hemi Orange and matches the mini orange mirror cap color better if I go that route, but it's not 500*. Do you think 500* paint is needed on a wheel because of brake heat? I don't see 500* ratings on wheel paints

Going to start by cleaning all of them with a good chrome wheel brake dust cleaning foam, then start smoothing out the corrosion the best I can. Should give me a real good idea what I have to work with and what parts of each wheel have good chrome for accents.

IYHO is Acrylic Enamel a better choice than straight Enamel? Or is there something better if I scratch the idea of using Blaze Orange Plasti Dip?

Decided to go with rattle-can Enamel. That's not to say the Plast-Dip spray isn't worth trying. If I was looking for Mat-Black I think I'd give it a go.

Started another thread for my "budget" H-Stock wheel and tire setup HERE if you'd like to see the end result.
