Possible to install a pre-06 Rim to a after-06 MINI?
Possible to install a pre-06 Rim to a after-06 MINI?
Hey Guys
Any help would be appreciated.
Is there any way you can install a rim with the pre-06 small lug size to a after-06 Mini with the larger lug size?
Are there any conversion studs etc out there i can get?
Thanks.

All of the OEM MINI rims since the beginning have had the same centerbore diameter, bolt spacing, and most importantly, the same diameter bolt holes (about 16 mm). As a result, the "pre 14 mm" wheels will bolt up to a car with 14 mm lug bolts with no problem. The only potential problem is that I believe some of the earlier MINI wheels won't accept the TPMS sensors required for the later "direct" TPMS system.
I currently have an aftermarket wheel (tuner style lugs) on my Gen 2 (’08). I am selling them and a Gen 1 owner (’04) is interested - wants to send me $$$ now! Buyer beware and all that doesn’t work for me - don’t want to screw him... Will he be alright?

Since you have larger lug bolts than he does, I can't imagine there being a problem.
EDIT - Unless, of course, they're really big wheels (like 18s), with an offset that brings the rim/tire really close to the wheel well or suspension components. In that case, the lower ride height of his '04 could conceivably cause interference issues. But as far as center bore diameter, bolt spacing and bolt hole diameter, he should be golden.

The R55/R56/R57/R58 are M14 x 1.25.
On July 12, 2006 the size of wheel bolts was changed from M12x1.5 to M14x1.25.
There exists a misconception that this change in wheel bolt size precludes fitting early OEM wheels on later model cars.
This is simply not true as all OEM wheels have holes large enough for either size wheel bolt.

Thanks for clearing things up, bluefox.
I’m working on getting the buyer a new set of lugs that will work - his OEM lugs won’t work since these wheels bolt up with a tuner style lug.
other way around?
I'm looking and can't find yet whether or not the rims can go the other way around.
Will 2010 Clubman S Wheels (205/45R17 5 spokes) fit onto a 2002 Cooper S that has regular brakes (non JCW) I have the opportunity to purchase a set for a good deal but want to know prior to committing and driving out there.
Thanks in advance.

Yes they will work.
The only difference will be the TPMS sending units inside the wheel.
They are not required for your car and if left in the wheel will not cause any problems.
Hope this helps...

cool thanks for the quick reply
that said about the tpms, will the indirect system that is on the 2002 still be able to detect a rotational difference and set the light.
reason I'm asking is because it has the runflats on the rims and if one of the tires gets a puncture the sidewall won't collapse and it might not set the light and i will be driving on a flat until it deteriorates and potentially causes a wreck.
Thanks again

I guess I was just too excited about getting a full set of Clubman 17's (R110 Pace-spoke ET48) with tires that have about 80% tread left for $250....
He just needed to get rid of them before his wife figured out he replaced his wheel set....
He made my day and they fit perfectly on an 02 MCS
I will say this though, having nearly slick 50 series 16's and changing them over to nearly full tread 45 series 17's there is definitely some truth to the comments stating that you will accelerate a little slower with larger wheels (bigger circumference), that plus the extra weight at each corner I guess makes it noticable, not huge but definitely not as quick off the line.
Thanks for your answers, I picked up a great set of wheels and tires for dirt cheap.
