Using Slime Tire Sealant

Yesterday I was pulling my Mini out of the garage when the dreaded flat tire light illuminated! Arh! I had an appointment in one hour and I had no time to have it repaired or replaced.

I have a Target minutes from my house and remembered seeing Slime tire sealant in the automotive section. I said what the hell it couldn't hurt. $7.74. It took me 5 minutes to install. It has been over 24 hrs and it is still holding strong. It said on the bottle that it will last for 2 years and tire sensor safe. I may buy another bottle and a compressor to store in the boot.

I am thinking I should be fine for about 5 months until I get my funds together for new rims and tires. I planned on using this stuff as an alternative to spare when I run non runflats.

Does Slime not only seal the tire but also inflate it?

No, the "Slime Kit" includes a 12V air compressor.

When you have a "slimed" tire replaced, the tire shop will likely charge you for the extra cleanup. And while it's TPMS safe, the slime needs to be scrubbed off in water. You might consider getting a Dynaplug along with the compressor. They really work and no mess.

I don't have RFT's on my '02 MCS so I carry the Slime "70005 Safety Spair" kit. It includes the sealant and 12 volt compressor in one compact kit. It will pump the sealant in at the same time it inflates the tire. I also carry Dynaplugs to plug any holes first.

I am definitely getting this kit. As far as an added cost for hosing off my wheel and sensor, I have no problem with that. I will also look into the Dynaplug kit.

I carry a Slime kit in my JCW, no runflats, took them off the day it was delivered. But I would not use it unless absolutely necessary, the plugs are a much better solution and should fix the leak by itself. If the hole's too big to plug, you're probably looking at a tow and a new tire.
The Slime makes a mess of everything, if I was a tire guy I'd charge you a fortune for having to clean it up later when fixing the tire.

AXO, Did you examine the tire to determine that you had a puncture or the valve stem was leaking?

I have a nail in it. I didn't remove it before adding the slime and it is still in the tire. I'm going to pick up some plugs this weekend and plug it

Thanks Jim. The kit I have is a bit more involved, but the same principle.
