Manual Transmission folks - Heads up!

Well, the oddest thing. I'm at home (home office), and I see an email from my neighborhood association about a red MINI that has apparently drifted into the street. I know that there's a red MC in the neighborhood, so I assumed it was that one. Could folks come help push it out of the way?

I go out to help, AND I FOUND OUT THAT IT'S MY CAR! Rolled about 12-15 feet out into the middle of the street out of my driveway! Parking brake was set, but I guess not enough. And it was on enough to keep the car from rolling all the way into the fence that runs along the other side of the street! It must have slowly rolled out and simply stopped!

Apparently the alarm was also going off, and i didn't hear anything. And my home office is only 15 feet or so from the driveway!

Make sure you fully engage that parking brake!

and leave it in 1st...

I love a happy ending though....

Kind regards,

Charlie

Ps: my driveway is a 10% grade, aimed downhill at my dear neighbor, an 80 year old french Canadian lady who likes my car, but would not appreciate it if it were in her living room...

No doubt, it's something to be aware of. I park on an incline and I've noticed in both my cars that I have to pull mighty hard to lock the brake (and of course put it in 1st gear) to prevent any rolling backward.

I'm careful not to pull TOO hard, but I make sure it locks. Hopefully the brake--and handle--can withstand this over the years...

Sometimes when kids are abused, they try to run away. The POs are especially sensitive with all the CR BS they hear. I'd suggest that you take a good look at how you've been treating Heath and maybe get some counseling. Heck, he even called you and you pretended you didn't hear.

Perhaps you're right - but he did just get a nice wash and wax (hand, not machine), got film on his nose to protect his delicate skin from rocks and cicadas!

I thought he knew that he was wanted - and I would NEVER call him orange. Well, if I did, I don't think he heard me say it!

Well, he seems to be treated better than my PR - haven't got to the waxing part, yet. Maybe he's just got a little rebel in him.

I believe the manual states to leave it parked in either first or reverse.....

Yep, I always leave my car in gear, usually reverse... As well as the parking brake holds my MINI in place when I forget to release it (oops!), I'm still not going to trust it to completely lock it down from rolling.

But I'm glad Heathcliff wasn't damaged by his little solo adventure!

Wow...what a timely email. Glad no one was hurt and your CM is ok.

The same think happened to me once, but at a mall. Someone bumped my car out of gear when I was parked on an incline and my car rolled to a stop 15 feet away....
