Konig Feather Centering Rings?

Hi Everyone,

I just purchased a brand new set of Konig Feathers (17") and when I took them to be installed with new tires the installers were asking me if I had the "centering rings." Which I didn't, the wheels were still in the box when I brought them. The installer said that usually wheels come with centering rings to prevent excess vibration. Should I have had these in the box? I did notice a little vibration as I was getting onto the freeway today around 50MPH.

Thanks.

Wow, thanks for the quick reply. I assume then that these centering rings are different than the center caps, right? I had the chrome center caps in the boxes.

Yep mine where in a see through red bag coverd in tape and hidden in the packing stuff in the boxes.

Word of advice, Dont let your wheels fall on their faces if you stand them up. It will scratch the wheel on all the spokes just by hitting the driveway. I know from experiance.

Can someone please confirm the size I need? From what I can tell I need 73mm/56.1mm. Does this sound correct?
Thanks.

They should have come from the dealer.

If they won't supply them contact Alta as they sell them also.

I purchased some Team Dynamic wheels recently and the same thing happened to me. The company I got the wheels and tires form, wanted way to much for the rings. I ended up contacting Fastmini.net for the solution, they were reasonably priced,t he guys at Fastmini.net were helpful and shipped FAST.

Thanks, everyone. I ended up ordering a set of metal rings from Discount Tire Direct via their eBay page. Konig also emailed me back telling me that the Feathers are 73.1mm but 73.0mm rings will work.

Question about vibration

Hello all. Congrats on the Konig Feathers I think they are awesome. Quick question for those of you that have them. I have had mine on for about 2 years now and I can't help but notice that even with the supplied centering rings there is still some slight vibrations at 60-70 mph. I had them mounted and road forced balanced at a shop I trust. I never had the vibrations with my factory rims. Have you guys had the same experience with the Konig feathers? Additionally mine are 17 inch rims and I have the General Altimax hps mounted. Seriously in reality for the price I paid I can live with the vibration I was just wondering if it was normal. Thanks for your time!!

My car has LOTS of vibrations, none of which come from the wheels though.

I did have one vibrate a little (OK A LOT) when one of our Colorado road craters, tried to eat my car! There was a dent in the wheel 4.5 inches long with a good 1/4 + inch of deflection.

When I ordered a replacement DISCOUNT sent a full new set of rings, but they where the cheap plastic kind. They dont look verry durrable, and IMHO if you have theese plastic rings (much less have had them on the car for two years) they could be the cause of your vibration.

Hey, I went for about a month without any centering rings and had TONS of vibration. My wheels did not come with any rings, so I ordered metal ones online. Ever since they've been installed I have had ZERO vibration. No problems at all. So maybe look into metal ones? I got mine off of eBay I believe.

Mine are plastic!

I appreciate the replies. Yes the rings that came with mine are indeed plastic. I am gonna have to do some searching to find some metal ones!! If you don't mind me asking, about how much did you pay for the metal centering rings?

I paid $17 with free shipping. Mine were from eBay, the seller was Discount Tires Direct or something like that. Best of luck.

Nothing wrong with the plastic rings if they are sized properly. Been using them for years on DD and track cars with no issues.

I wasn't saying plastic is bad, my wheels just flat out didn't come with any rings. So I just decided to order metal since I had a choice and they were pretty inexpensive. If mine had come with the plastic I'm sure I would have just installed them.

My Konig ECO 1's came with plastic rings. 73 x 56.15. I ordered the metal ones off E-Bay for $17.00. I track my MINI and just updated the pads to
Carbontech X-10's front and X-8's in the rear. I was concerned about melting the plastic ones at the track. i will use the metal and put some anti-sieze on them so they do not fuse to the hub. Going mount the wheels today with the plastic for test run if it stays dry.

I have two sets of tires--I use plastic rings on my street tires, and metal ones for my track tires (hub sizes are different on both sets of rims). Plastic is fine for the street, but you're doing the right thing--plastic is iffy for the track. I saw a guy melt plastic rings on the track; since seeing that I won't run those; I have no desire to clean up that kind of a mess.

Metal is the way to go!!

Element you were dead on about the metal rings!! I am not sure if the plastic ones were just the wrong size or what, but since I put the metal ones on there is almost no vibration from 50mph to 80mph!! Thanks for the good advice much appreciated!!
