215-50-17 non run flats??

I have a 2008 MCS stock, my runflats finally wore out (thank God) and now I'm thinking of getting Goodyear Eagle 215-50-17; any pros and cons concerning tire type or size would be appreciated. Anyone know if I should expect any rubbing with the tire size increase (old tires are 205-45-17)? tia

Rubbing because those sidewalls are rather large. Look at 45 or 40s and what wheels are they going on?

You need to stay with the 45 that gives the closest overall diameter of the tire to OEM. You need to stay close to this overall diameter for the speedometer to operate correctly.

205/45-17 OA Diameter = approx 24.3" (this will change slightly depending on exactly which tire it is but it will be close to that)

215/45-17 OA Diameter = approx 24.6" so it should bring your speedometer closer to accurate.

215/50-17 OA Diameter = approx 25.5" So for this tire you will be traveling faster than the speedometer states you are I.E. Speedo reading of 60 MPH will produce an actual speed of 63 MPH. Although with the "your MINI" this may actually make the speedo accurate. I am running 215/45-17's Yokohama S.Drives (OA Diam 24.7") and at 60MPH the speedometer shows 1 mile per hours faster than actual speed.

The other thing that you will find is possible rubbing if your car is lowered. If not lowered then you probably will not have and issue other than the speedometer.

thx for the info. My car is not lowered so looks like rubbing won't be an issue. The speedo has always been a couple miles faster than my "actual" speed (judged by my GSP). The 215-50-17s look like the way to go. I really like how they look and the wider footprint.

Lowered or not you increasing the overall diameter and width of the tir to the point were rubbing is possible(not a def). Why do you want such beefy tires? If it is because of comfort just downsize to 16s then get beefier tires.

I just put Yoko S 215/45/17's on my 2010 Mayfair ... perfect fit ... much quieter than the RFs and smoother too!

Not going to be a rubbing problem there are a number of people I know that are running even wider at 225/45's and no rubbing issues.

Well I settled on the 215-50-17 Goodyear Eagle GT, got'em put on this evening. The car rides so much better, no rubbing and I love the stout look. I appreciate all the input; Motor On baby!!

Did you notice any changes to your acceleration with the new tires?

No, can't say I've noticed any change in acceleration. My main gain has been a much smoother ride, I'm so glad the RFs are gone.
