My 2 day old MINI just ate a screw

Unbelievable, haven't even had the car 2 days.

I woke up this morning to go for a drive only to hear the Tire alarm go off.
Figured the tire was a tad bit low on air. I was in shock when I went to fill it up and saw a screw plunged deep into the tread!!!

Luckily, I was about a mile away from a tire repair shop that patched it up. So far so good but fingers are crossed.

After doing some quick googling it seems that run-flats are more susceptible to punctures. If that's the case can someone explain why???

Seriously thinking about switching to non run-flats...

Non run-flats will improve your ride. The stiff sidewalls of the run flats intensify the harshness of the stiff suspension. As for why they are more prone to puncture - I've never heard that so can't help you out. I know a lot of people that drive from the dealer to the tire shop to remove the runflats and then post the runflats in the NAM marketplace. As for the repaired tire - it should be okay. Enjoy your new ride....

You shouldn't be feeding screws to a MINI that is only two days old. They need to be weaned to solid food gradually! Sounds like you will be happier once you lose the RF's.

I haven't found the ride to be that harsh. Would love to take a ride in non run-flat with sported suspension to feel the difference.

Hey at least with the run-flats you DROVE to get it repaired!

Not that I like them, but in a sense, they help you out of some small messes.

I agree, the run-flats made it much quicker to get to the repair shop. I will likely keep them as long as my MINI doesn't continue to eat nails and screws while wearing them

join the club. I ate a nail on the 2nd or third day of ownership. I haven't had a nail or a screw in a tire in 15 years. New car....pick up a nail. Incredible...I thought that kind of stuff only happened to me!

I've been waiting to 'upgrade' to non-RF wheels but I can't justify the expense. I'm just hoping a screw will go into RFs soon

I saw the preview for this thread and thought it sadi "my MINI ate a baby". I have non runflats and the first week I had my MINI in Florida it ate a nail. I ended up driving it 1400 miles with no problems when I went to Mississippi and back.
