run flats

Before too long, I will be in need of new tires. What vender gives you the best bang for your buck on run flats? What should I expect to pay for a quality run flat tire? ballpark figure. '04 MCS

Personally (and most likely the thoughts of the majority on this site) I would not replace the runflats with another set of runflats. They are heavy (unsprung weight), ride rough and are expensive to replace. Purchase non-runflat tires and either carry a donut spare or a 12volt compressor and some tire slime. You'll be amazed at how much better the car will ride and perform.

Op, What do you want to do with the car and the tires? What are your objectives? Do you think you want all seasons or high performance tires?

This is my everyday car. I live 100+ miles from any major city, so I do that once in a while. I'm not into rallying or racing. I have a 4 wheel drive when necessary. I would like to feel comfortable taking a long road trip from time to time.

i too make a hefty commute (85 miles each way) twice a week. and was reluctant to move away from the run flats. for me the deal breaker was having to replace the RF every year (expect 15-20K mi out of a set) at the cost of $1000. Non RF your looking at 40-50K at about $500-800 a set. i went with the slime compressor/sealant/plug kit for my spare. cost the same as a tire but you only have to buy it once, and you don't lose all your luggage space

If your dead set on more runflats, they go for next to nothing (new take-offs < 3-4000 miles usually) in the Marketplace. May even find some local, as most dont want to ship em.

I got 40k out of my original set of runflats. They were the Goodyear OEMs.

I'm putting Continental ContiProContact SSR runflats on my '06 MCS in size 205/55/16.

Replacing my 195/55/16 Dunlup runflats with 40k miles on them.

I'll be spending around 150 a tire with another 17.95 for mounting and balancing and stems and then tax. Free rotations and balancing for life (whatever that means).

I like run flats. Let the flames begin.

more=less (pun intended) in that the high cost gives you less (miles, comfort, handling). No flames from here, everyone has reasons for either run flats or non-runflats.
