Upgrade from bald runflat to new non-runflat = WOW

I just upgraded from some bald pirelli euphoria runflats to some Falken ZIEX ZE-912 non-runflats. Wow!

The runflats are bad enough, but when they get low on tread, the bumps in the road actually pull your steering wheel.

These new non runflats feel so smooth on the road. I can hear the usual rough spots on the road in the tires, but it no longer transfers into my cabin and steering wheel.

Runflats suuuuck.

Losing the runflats should be the first mod any MINI owner makes. It's amazing what the right pair of shoes can do for a car, especially one that handles so well.

are the original equipment tires ContiPremimumContact2 tires run flats? I just had my tires changed to ContiPremiumContact tires and I was told that if you go from run flats to non run flats it can affect the handling/steering of the car. Is this true? I am noticing my handling is not as stiff as before. But am thinking maybe it has more to do with the alignment that was done at the tire shop I took it too.
I have a 2007 Mini Cooper.

I'm far from an expert on these matters, but if your're going from rf's to non rf's I would consider purchasing the Slime kit that contains a tube of Slime and a small compressors. Just my 2 c's.

Sounds like you have 15" wheels - the ContiPremiumContact2 is a non-runflat in the 15" size. Handling/steering feel changes when tires are replaced, usually it takes a few days to get used to the new feel. Also new tires are slippery due to the mold release agent, which takes some miles to wear off.

Run flats are "run flats" because they have a very stiff sidewall. This does help in handling where it being so stiff, it doesn't curl over in a turn, but that stiff sidewall also gives you a harsh ride. IMO, stiff sidewall doesn't mean anything in handling if the tires don't grip to begin with. I slide everywhere on mine if I push it to much.

I am thinking of replacing my run flats as well. What rubbers would you guys recommend. I live in a 4 season area. Typically lots of snow. So I don't want to go all street performance to save some cash on having to get winter tires too. Let me know!

that's what i've done! 79$ from slime. i've not had to use it but it comes with all kinds of junk. the slime and pump but also a variety of plugs and such. lets home neither of us, or any mini owner has to use it!

I paid $20.00 for my Slime Kit. I purchased my Bridgestone Protenza's from a local Firestone Auto Shop. They have shops in pretty much every community. If you ride in the boonies it would make sense to upgrade your AAA membership. I can only echo what so many of our members have already posted, Wow What a Difference.

I've neglected to rotate my tires, and now my fronts are getting pretty low on tread. I have the crown spoke 17s. Any recommendations? Should i just replace the fronts or go ahead and rotate them out?

In my area many shops offer "buy 3, get the 4th free", if you can find a deal like this, I think you should replace all your tires. ust my $0.02.

My situation is complicated. I'm navy stationed in spain, and tires are expensive out here. Prices in Euro at that. The base shop doesnt even have any 17x7 either. So i think i'm going to rotate them out until i get my car back home in Alabama this summer. I'll probably buy all new ones then i guess.

Wow Steve, that is so kind of you to say. I really appreciate the kind words. I'll be back in the states in June. I'm so excited. There really is no place like home, and the USA is definitely the best place to live in the world!!
