Instead of starting a new thread I figured I would ask here.
I have to replace both my front and rear rotors as I autocross and track my car a few times a year. I have the new rotors and all I need is some advice on how to go about the actual change. I have replaced pads a few times and know the drill, but have never done the rotors. Any pointers like special tools I should have at hand and such?
INFO: R53 2005
Thanks!

Key tool needed is a T-50 torx bit for the retaining screw. Note that these have been known to be VERY difficult to remove, and even snap off. When reinstalling the screw, use some anti-seize.
Otherwise, they just come right off.

Seems like aftermarket replacement rotors for pre-2007 minis are readily available. I'm coming up on replacing my front pads (and perhaps rotors) on my 2007 MCS. It's got the larger front rotors. Anyone know if aftermarket larger rotors are available anywhere? I would sure like to save some bucks by not buying the OEM ones.

That's great and all if you have a Bentley! What does the Mini manual say? Is the wear limit the same as the minimum thickness? 3mm seems a bit much, I would stay within 2mm.

I think the Bently manual is wrong. I have looked at the rotors on my 2006 MCS and they clearly state, front, min. 20.4mm, rear min. 8.4mm.

Who are you going to believe? BMW/MINI or Bently?

If you are already down to 20.5mm then you will be replacing the rotors after another 0.1mm of wear for the fronts and another 0.3mm of wear for the rears.

The would be about 3,600 more miles for the front rotors and about 10,000 more miles on the rear, given the same wear rate.

At this posting I have not seen any aftermarket rotors for the R56/R56S. TSW and AXC are working with our R53/52/50 Rotor Supplier to make the Rotors for the R56S, which is also the R53/52/50 JCW rotor, and hope to have them in the market in the new year.

Thanks AutoX, I'll check out your site periodically to see if those R56mcs rotors show up.

My understanding of this information is that the min. thickness stated on the rotors are to determine at the time of pad replacement whether they should be replaced if out of spec. The Bentley manual, on the other hand, shows a measurement of absolute wear limit for the rotor. In other words, if your front rotors are less than 20.4mm at the time of pad replacement, they should also be replaced. Otherwise, you run the risk of the rotors wearing thinner than 19mm (the wear limit) before you are likely to need to replace the pads again.
