time for some wheels...
time for some wheels...
and new tires.
i'm definitely on a constrained budget, so volks are out
i currently have 17" s-heavies and all-season run-flats.
i want to ditch the run-flats, and am looking for a lighter 16" or 17" wheel with all-season tires that perform well. i'd like to get a little more sidewall than the 205/45/17 run-flats. the roads around here are mostly crappy. i do not currently track my car, and would like eventually lower it with new springs.
what are your thoughts on these scenarios:
16"x7" wheels @16.3 lbs/ea, 42ET, with falken ze-912s 205/50/16
17"x7" wheels @17.8 lbs/ea, 42ET, with falken ze-912s 215/45/17
i'm not totally sold on falkens; i'm checking into toyo proxes 4, kumho asx, but the specs i have listed are what i'm considering.
your feedback is appreciated.
thanks.

for tires, get goodyear eagle f1 all season tires. they are excellent performance tires, and i have yet to hydroplane, even in large puddles at 60+ mph. idk about snow performance as we almost never get any snow or ice here in upstate SC.
if you're on a budget just get good new tires. nothing worse than
running around with some cheezo wheels and tires on a nice
car like the MINI's.
check out tirerack for better selection of good tires.

Melvyn,
If you plan on lowering the Mini, you may want to go with 215/40R17 for the 17" setup. Some rub with 215/45R17 on their lowered Mini's. Also, the Falken 912's run a bit wider so that won't help your carse either. Let me know if you have any questions on the tires or wheels for that matter.

I'll let you know how that works out once I install it-hopefully this coming weekend

how did the coil-overs turn out?
and how much did you need to trim?
thanks.

I was slightly rubbing with my BFG KDWs that are 215/45/17 with the stock suspension, but a very light trim fixed that. I just ordered a set of coil-overs (cross) so we'll see how that goes. (I'm not far from tucking rubber under the fender at stock height)

Looking for some spiffy wheels
Hope this is the correct thread for this question.
i've been googleing wheels, especially at tire rack, and the wheels that appealed to me and are within a reasonable budget price are made in China.
Considering all the news about quality and safety of Chinese products and their apparent disregard for consumer's welfare lately, my enthusiasm for their wheels is nonexistant.
Is there any experience with these wheels? Has anybody had one fly apart at an embarrasing moment? Do they require 5 pounds of balancing weights to quiet them down? And most importantly, will I be real sorry I bought them a day after they are mounted?

We have to handle warranty and customer satisfaction. Low quality products = bad buisness, likley not something we could ever offer.

Not sure where these were made but they look good to me. I got the wheels, (Konig Rewinds), and Falken 912's mounted, balanced and shipped to my door for $696.
Three of them required zero weight to balance, and the fourth only 1/4 ounce.
