Brake Dust is a pain
I have the R90 17" wheels and the Brake Dust from the OEM pads is a constant problem. Has anyone had good results from the Green Brake Pads or others that claim less dust? They don't seem to be too expensive but I would like to know if it really makes that much difference before going through the trouble of changing them.
Thanks,
Ryan

I second the comments about kleen wheels. I had 'em, tossed 'em...
1. They (apparently) prevent ventilation. The manufacturer says differently but...
2. They (apparently) cause warranty problems. Read the disclaimer printed right on the car (under the bonnet I believe).
3. If you have open design wheels, they wreck the look.
I also second the comment about EBS Greens. I have 'em at all four corners and they are outstanding. I have NO dust problem. (I do get a little, but nothing close to the factory pads.)
They also work pretty well.

After I wash the car and take it for a drive, the wheels are dirty. I too have the R90's and they drive me crazy cleaning the numberous spokes and crannies. Maybe I'll try these green brake pads.
A: Wax your rims!
B: Pick up a small California Car Duster and use that often
C: Also use foaming tire wet...
That's what I do, and they stay semi-clean... I'm going to upgrade the pads when they need it...

Really good to hear. I was thinking of the greenies or the shields.
I was wondering if the greenies could be painted with some high temp engine paint so they are not so obnoxious peeking through my wheels.

I installed the Greenies (front and rea) when I installed my new white OZ Crono's and the reduction in black dust is really remarkable, the stuff is worth every penny. I also painted my calipers with the Red G2 paint, also from the Tire Rack.
The very little bit of green that pokes through from the red calipers is actually intreguing to look at, everybody asks, 'say, what's that freen stuff?'

Are there any other brake pads out there besides the green ones wiht same as or better brake dust performance? I jsut can't keep up with cleanning the white wheels it crazy.. and I don;t want them to become stained..If I'm goignt o buy brake pads then I want THE best brake pads with the least amount of brake dust possible. I mean are tehre any NO dust pads out there?
Brake systems use pressure to convert momentum into heat. Said friction causes dust.
EBC uses a kevlar focused pad, to lighten the dust color and decrease the amount.
If there was a no dust brake system it woul most likely not stop the vehcile very well. But It would last forever, as it would never wear away.
Your clutch could be made of this same material, and it too would last forever.
Until I figure out how to transfer this energy without friction material, I have no dustless solution.

I have kleen wheels on my 03 MCS with 11,000 miles no problems.I have them on my wife's 03 Cooper 9,800 miles no problems.I have them on my 1998 Mercedes-Benz SL500 58,000 miles (original brakes!!!) no problems. They have been on my MB since the day I got it.I am the service manager at a Mercedes-Benz dealer in Mass.and have several customers with them on their cars with no problems.Just my opinion.
>>EBC Greenstuff pads make a HUGE difference. Got those in the front and Mintex on the back. Night and day as far as dust is concerned.
I agree
I have the EBC Redstuff ..front & back...and there's is a substancial difference.
Don't get me wrong....it's still there...but...tolerable

Are Mintex better than EBC, but more dusty? Just curious, why not EBC all around?

The fronts make more dust, regardless of the pad since they see the most use. The backs aren't as bad. I did the Helix Stage 1 brake upgrade - which is front slotted rotors, EBC Greenstuffs on the front and stainless lines all around (and ATE Superblue Brake fluid) Since the Mintex pads are half the price of the EBC's, Eric recommended doing thos at a later date. I also don't think the EBC rears were available when I did it...but in any case, the Mintex are less dusty than stock, but slightly more than the EBC. My wheels stay pretty clean - but if the wind blows the wrong way, forget it. We're talking bright white wheels here....
