Upgrade Rotors, pads that work with 17" and 15" wheels

Hi,

I'm interested in possibly going with an upgrade kit (slotted rotors, etc.) but I want a kit that's compatible with the 17" Slites and the 15" ASA wheels that I run in winter. Any suggestions on a decent brand that won't cost TOO much more than going back to the MINI dealer for the OEM replacements?

My specs:

2005 MCS, LSD, Sport suspension
I do not track the car.
I drive spiritedly but I'm fairly easy on the brakes (my original set of rotors and pads are at 66,700+ miles and still looking decent).

Thanks!

Why do you want to spend all that money on rotors? Get the right pads and you'll be amazed. Try Carbotech AX6's, I was thrashing on a twisty-hilly road on Sunday afternoon with those on a '07 MCS. I still have to find out how deep I can go into the corners, definitely a lot deeper than I was! Round 2 in two weeks!

Well, my rotors will need replacement soon as will the brake pads. I'd like to be able to upgrade them so they're all brandy new.

I would still go with something OEM and in-expensive. Going big just cost's too much. There was agreement on this point on another thread I was just on.

Just did EBC slotted rotters and pads.
I choose ebc rotters because of their black middle and blace slots...really looks good. no more of this rusty look like you get from others.

Too bad the EBC's stopping power is terrible! No rust huh? Guaranteed? Get it in writing. I would have chosen Carbotech, Hawk or anyone else. EBC has to have the worst "stuff" on the market. Goes to show what big marketing dollars will do for you!

... which means "I'm mad as heck"?

We're all happy to have you here - no reason to be angry all the time...

First you have to define what an "upgrade" rotor is. Buy a good set of pads, turn the rotors if they are heavily grooved or simply replace them with some inexpensive blanks. Add some ss hoses to the mix and you'll get another 65k with nicer feel, decent repsonse (pending pad choice) and little dust. Add a bunch of treatment to the rotor and you'll wear out those pads quicker.

You should read the other talk about three threads down.

oh, and one more thing:

Well not sure about different brands, but I just pulled hawk pads off, worst pads I have ever had. Had them on Coop and Dodge truck. Decent stopping but as dusty as OEM was. And true if you don't know how to gear down when your breaking you can wear the BEST rotters and pads out no matter how much you pay for them.

I've been on EBC Greenstuff and Brembo blanks for maybe a 1 year-a year and a half. Yes, I knew they would rust so I painted the hats. Wow. Big deal. Get over it. Wanna spend twice as much for them to paint it? Go for it. Or, you can buy the Brembo rotors and 2 cans of high temp paint for $10 and end up the same.

Hey Blimey- I'm not mad, mad, mad! I don't think so anyway. I just like that icon and use it everytime I post. I like being here too and I like a lot of the posts I see from you. I think I called you a snob yesterday, be it indirectely. I really dislike it when people put their noses up at others, no matter the reason. Just trying to inform and educate with all I have gleaned. Later!

Yep same here, I know a few folks here in Bama, that paid good money for Brembo and got all the rust, not sure why you would want to pay good money for something you gotta paint just get the same thing from another vendor for half the price.

Slow down now, what Hawk pads? To me that's like Wilwood caliper.
Compounds are what you need to understand. HP+ is quite dusty, yet HPS is a crowd favorite on many cars.

Gearing down? You're not really using the engine to slow the car? Maybe the diesel, but not the MINI? Brakes are for slowing and motors are for going!

I paid $40 each for fronts and $60 each for rear. Add in another 10 for paint. $210 for 4 rotors. Show me a set of 4 rotors for half that price that also carries a name I'm willing to trust. Oh, and

I ddn't mean to start anything bad, just really meant to say, that each person likes different things. If we didn't we would be a bunch of boring Miniacs. And yes I think Hawk pads are great pads and certain people like them more than others. its a good thing. Plus Brembo is the best on the market, just ask DINAN, they want a killing to put their name on a set of callipers.
Motor On
O I almost forgot

No problem. And unfortunately, I won't be there. I'm sure I'll have to work so to that I say
