Hey guys...

Just trying to gauge how much backspacing people have been able to fit under an R56 before rubbing on the inside (not the outside).....specifically the rears.

Who has 8" wide wheels with high offsets or 7" wheels with high offsets and lots of backspacing?

How much room do you have until rubbing on the inside?

What are your wheel and tire specs?

I've got 17x7.5" wheels with a +45 offset with 215/40/17 tires, lowered on coilovers, and there plenty of clearance on the inside edge. The outside is tight, though

I think a +40 offset on 7.5's would be perfect. We're going to trying 235's on +38 offset wheels for the track soon.

You think you have half an inch of space on the inside?

I'm pretty sure there's at least that much in the front, but I'm not sure about the rears. We were getting close to the control arm with a few of the wheels we were trying, but I'm pretty sure I was able to get my fat fingers between the inside edge of the wheel and the rear control arms on all of the 7.5's we tried.

You guys wouldn't happen to know if an 18x8 with a 45 offset would fit an R56, would you?

That's along the same lines of what I'm trying to figure out. I'm planning on going with 9's in the rear with a lower offse that would have the same backspacing as the 18x8 that you're looking at...

How low of an offset Rally? ET30 or lower?

The wheel set I'm looking at is... 17x8 et25 and 17x9 et32. That's after the required adapters, so i may just make the rear adapters 5mm bigger and make them 17x9 et27 if that offset is too high. I know the front's will be fine...just worried about the rears.

You have any idea if 17x9 et32 will rub on the inside? Stretched tires of course. I know it will be fine on the outside. The car is gonna be lowered A LOT (more than the current car) and I don't want the wheel rubbing on the inside and preventing me from getting lower.

Wheels are a secret for now....but they're 5 lug multipiece wheels and some nice lip

Secrets aren't nice! lol. I'm looking forward to see what you've chosen this time around.

Wish I could help you out with the offsets, but, I'm sure someone will chime in with some help. I'd say just go with the et27 anyways. How much slammage are you going for? R56 looks like a tank haha

Laying subframe ....no R56 for me, I've got an R55 on the way...but they've got the same clearance so I figured the R56 owners would be the ones to ask.

Hmm, does anyone make a descent set of bags for the 07's? I know Rally looked into it for the R53s...

Nah....it's gotta be all custom one off stuff. I've been working on it for a few months now

But let's keep this on topic Anyone else have any backspacing numbers of what fits on your 07+?

If it it tight on the outside, don't you have that backwards? A smaller offset would push the wheel out, not in.

Yup, you're right. It's been one of those weeks for me

We were looking at 4 different sizes of wheels with 3 different offsets and multiple tire choices while adjusting ride height and camber.

When I get the car back, I'll get more exact measurements of what is there and what would be optimal.

Thanks. I am looking at a set of 17x7 wheels with a 38mm offset. I like the wide stance of a 38mm offset and it should be safe on the outer edge with only a 7" wide wheel and 215/45/17 tire. But your info has me interested in a 7.5" or 8" wide wheel. (H&R lowering springs)

Now for something completely different.....
Well not completely,
For my '07 Cooper
I'm considering a wheel tire combo for Autocross--
16x7 ET40
Question is which tire size will fit /work best?
205/50-16 OR 215/45-16
