215/45/17 Tire opinions

Was planning on Goodyear F1 GSD3s, but am having second thoughts in the wake of the latest controversy...

Any opinions on other great choices in high performance summer tires for this size? PZeros? Dunlops? ContiSport3s?

BS Potenza RE750s: Too expensive, but good on the street, good in the wet, ok on the track, will recommend if you don't mind the cost

Kumho SPT: good dry tire, grips like the RE750 on the track, in the wet its defenitely not as good as the 750, and a bit noisier, but nothing insane, will buy again,

Falken Azenis RT615: Very good in the autox, but gets greasy quickily when hot, grips the best at ambient temperature, hydroplanes quite badly too, but suprisingly isnt as hard as i thought, and quieter than i thought, not as good if you are getting one tire for all duties, but good if you want a short life autox tire

im gonna get General Exclaim UHP or Hankook RS2s for the street next... Azenis has probably 5000-7000km left

Bridgestone RE01R. Stellar handling and they run wide, so you're getting a 225 sized treadwidth.

Kumho SPT 215/45/17 : for the price of this tire you cant go wrong, I've used a lot of the more expensive brands and the performance difference is very marginal.
I will defenitely buy these again. Some people may be willing to spend $60-80 more per tire to gain a 10% increase in performance, if your racing or competing then that could make a difference, but not for me. Price versus performance, you cant beat the Kumho.

i disagree I'm running the Kumho SPT's right now and they are at the break in period and I'm still not getting any love out of them. I'm gonna go back to the Bridgestone RE01R's

yes I had a set of Dunlop SP Sport Max in 215/45/17, when they were worn out I switched to something cheaper (BFGoodrich g-Force Sport) but I miss the Dunlops; they were stickier with great turn in... I got 15K out of them with some bad negative camber in the rear...

the tires that PGT had said are good. i have them for street/ track and ok in the wet. expensive, but i would look into dunlop direzza Z1's... cheaper than the RE01's. oh yeah, sumitmo hrz lll seem to be pretty good from what i heard and read... pretty good bang for the buck imo.

I hated the SPT, but I had them in 205/55/15....no steering response at all

The Direzza Z1 is cheaper than the RE01R, but it comes at the cost of ride Q. Not that people are looking for a comfy tire when it comes to a summer set, but that's my understanding of the difference and what you get for 50% more money

I didn't HATE the SPT's (i had the 205/50/15's )....but i didn't love them either. They were just kinda ehhhhh. I was less then impressed....partially because my expectations were high after hearing so many people praise the MX's.

I now have the Dunlop Direzza's and have been very content with them. They haven't gotten many super spirited runs yet.....but they've been good to me. And the price was very nice

For the price and performance, the Yokohama ES-100 is a great tire. Not the most high performance tire out there, but it is cheap and very predictable at the limits with good feedback to the driver. It's a dragon slayer's favorite.

IMHO the KDWs are MUCH better than the yoko 100s !
Tread were, grip, response, feedback ... ALL

I hated those tires ... only good for unwanted burnouts ! and unintended drifting

yeah....teh Parada Spec-2 are much better. Still not sure why they make different versions. Add in the horrible S.Drive and you wonder what the marketing plan is. What, 8 summer tires??

AVS ES100
AVS Sport
AVS DB S2
Parada Spec-2
S.Drive

I put Yoko s.drives on the other half's Saab 9-3 Aero, much better than the Perelli's P-zeros and Kumho STPs. Not quite the performance handling I expected from Yoko, but a predictable, quieter tire with a good ride. I really liked the Potenza Re-01Rs on my TT. I won't go back to any Conti tire w/ how bad they were on my Toureg.

I want better handling on the Mini so I'm probably going w/ the Re-01Rs or possibly the BFG g-forces (heard decent things and they are cheaper)

Good luck

um... i think A032R and A048 aren't really street tires, are they

anyone tried the General Exclaim UHPs? i wonder if they are worth the buy compared to FK452s

What controversy is there about the Goodyear's? I must have missed something.

Thanks!

I hadn't heard any of that. I have the Goodyear F1s and they have been great for the past 1.5 years. Super grip, wet or dry and they have a nice quite ride as well. I hope the ones made in China are still as good.
