235/40-17

Anyone have any experience with this tire size on 17 x 7.5", +45 offset, or some similar offset on an R53 with no suspension mods?

Thanks-------

yeah, not possible on that offset.

you need a 10mm spacer on that wheel to clear the trailing arms and the shocks.

I am looking at the same size for TRACK / auto-x

SO ... you think a 35 et will clear the suspension ???
I WILL do "something" at the fenders
(They are already cut from when I ran the S-Lite and 20 mm SPACER ... AND lowered)

The BFG R1 race tires come in this size and with my BBK need to stay 17"
would it make any diff fitment OR tire fit on a 8"

I can get 42 or 45 et ... then just keep playing with spacers.

SORRY for a bit of hyjack ... buy we are after the same info

Grass roots rant them on a 7" and rubbed like crazy with a 42 et.

Mayby a 7.5 42 would be better for the tire but that is not in stock autocross class so at that point i would get a set of 17 x 8 wheel from TD.

my SSR type C-RS's are 17 X 7.5 w/ 42 mm offset. i run 225/40/17 hoosiers. i'm lowered about 1.5 inches on coilovers w/ a TCE bbk. i run -2.5* front camber and -1.5* rear camber. the camber helps tuck the tires into the opening (as well as doing a lot of other wonderful things). these are tight everywhere. i would love to stuff some 235's in there. i might just try it!

Thanks for the dialogue so far!
Now someone speak up who has actually done this or tried real hard? I would hate to have to settle for 215/45s, that is barely any wider than the too skinny and stock 205/45s. 225/45 is way too tall, 225/40 is a very rare size.

Help us Minihune!

it's been done, just on R56's. You'll never take advantage of a 235 width tire on stock suspension

Meaning I would have to increase ride height to make it work? That is not gonna work, not exactly what I was looking for. And yes, I have read this has been done on R56.

no. I mean, with stock alignment and suspension, you won't use all 235mm's of treadwidth. overkill. run 215's and add some camber plates and camber links and I promise it will be a better car. 215/45/17 RE01R's are sized like 225 width tires with 8 inches of usable tread. The difference between those and a 235 width is like 12mm of tread...hardly worth the effort unless bragging rights are what you are after

But a mod to the effective offset of the wheel, not the suspension itself

PGT: Thanks, that sounds like good advise. Apart from the treadwidth itself, I would expect a 7.5" wheel will also help the 215s look better/wider than stock 205s on a 7" wheel, and possibly to perform better as well. The 215s certainly seem like the safest and simplest bet.

ME 2 !!! ... same specs as well

A or R Hoosers (auto-x or race/track)

are your fenders (inners ) trimed
with your set up what is the limiting factor ?
what would rub if you were wider ???

i just got kicked back to this thread from another.....

i'm running R6's
no fender trimming or rubbing.
limiting factor is unknown until i get there! it is fairly tight everywhere.
i run a 5 mm spacer in the front to clear the spax coilovers. other than that no problems.
i think that with a properly designed wheel.tire combination that this will work. i will be working with Kodiak to make the wheels happen. i'll keep everyone posted as to how this works out.

and i'm sure that you'll love them! as you know, i run the same R6's. about the perfect diameter. i'm looking for a little more width as power levels increase. good luck and have fun.

Bean ... any news ?
If you are runnig a 42 et with a 5mm spacer that is a et of 37 ... Front.
You dont run any spacer rear because it would rub or just because you dont have to.

My rear fenders are VERY 'trimmed' (pounded actually and cut liner and trim )

I will be getting a set of A6 and R6 for 08. in the 225/40 (I am lowered about 1.5)
SO... et 42 wiuth front spacers or 37s all around ???

i haven't done anything w/ the Kodiaks yet. i just got another set of 225/40/17 R6's which work w/ my SSR's.

i don't run a rear spacer because i don't have to use one. it would be very tight on the outside lip w/ a spacer, but it might fit. i use the same configuration for my HRE street wheels.
