Everyone is always saying how the 17 s-lights with the run flats are so heavy and do not perform very good. Is it the rims or tires or both that have the most effect on the weight situation.

Both are heavy. I don't think the Pirellis are
bad tires except for the weight.

The s-lites and the R90's are both ~ 25 lbs. Then the run-flats are about the same. When I went to the 16" MINI V-spokes (R84) and Yokohama AVS ES100 tires, it cut 13 lbs per corner.

i miss the handling of the Pirellis
but don't miss the price i had to pay every time one of them bubbled
the Goodyears are great in the rain, but they don't stick as well as the Pirellis on dry ground
i think i need to find a set of good performance tires (17in)
any idea's.......Yokohama's??????

2minis used the 17" yokohamas. I think they wore a little quickly (if you do track/autocross). I had a set of the 16" and had similar experience. I'm not sure what he's using now though.

The Yoko AVES 100s are great tires for the street,
even hard street driving. I will probably get them again but stay
away from tracks with the new S.
I even got a large screw in one of them that only produced a very
slow leak and probably drove 500 miles before it was noticeable.

2Minis,
I have 3 track days coming up starting mid August. I am planning on the Bridgestone S-03's. Falken Azenis are a close 2nd. I have the Yoko's on my wife's 3 Series, very nice. What are you planning to run with? I currently have the R84 16" V Spokes with SP5000 Dunlop's.

From what I've read the Bridgestone S-03's are the
way to go-go....

Along with the S-Lites and Pirelli's being heavy the ride is a bit jolty or harsh in otherwords this set-up has a tendency to 'bounce' a lot. Its a nice set up for someone that doesn't drive too enthudsiatically.
I currently have the 17' S-Lites with the Pirelli Run flats. But I just purchased from the Tire Rack a set of 17" OZ Crono Evolutions and Yoko ES 100 rubber, this set up will save me 12 pounds at each corner. Just as soon as the wheels are bead blasted and powder coated white my mini will have a new pair of shoes!

Sweeeeet! Nice choice!
I am having the H Sport Springs and Madness Swaybar installed next week. Randy is visiting our neck of the woods mid-July, and I will have the Alta pulley and Evotech ECU installed. S-03's will be added early August on my stock 16" for now. I already have the Madness intake, but staying with the stock exhaust until I find a compelling reason to spend the dough here. For those doing track dates, are you using the stock seat belts, or have you gone to the Schroth Rallye 4 Harness?
Cheers!

You've got 2 great suggestions the s/03 being 10/10ths. The ES100 brings more mannors to the table.

You'll REALLY appreciate what S-03 brings to the table, with aggresive driving tendancies.
