215/45 >has the correct load capacity for Mini. 215/45/17 is .2 of an inch taller in diameter than Oe 195/55.

215/45 is what I bought (from Tirerack) and now have over 16k on them. It's actually improved my speedo acuracy a bit.

215/45 is also the size used in the Spec Mini series.

I did the 215-45-17's on Team Dynamics Monzas with a 45mm offset and havn't had any rubbing issues. With the slightly wider tires the car looks a bit meaner too. The little bit of extra height also fills in the wheel wells a little, which is nice 'free' benefit. Here's some pics of the wheels:

Hi Alex
Is there a wheel that fits these tires and also clears Brembo or Stoptech calipers without spacers on a Cooper S?

Thanks

Bora

I am worried about rubbing with the 215/45/17 due to my 30mm suspension drop.

Am I safe or should I go with 215/40/17 or 204/45/17?

I have 2 wheels KA3 Fox 5

You can see their weight and offset data here!

These are the only two 17 inch wheels that fit without spacers over the Brembo GT kit, that I offer.

The lowering is more helpfull, as the added camber moves the top of the wheel in. 205/45 if you like narrower.

Thanks Alex. I would prefer to go wider, but not if there is a chance I will get rubbing. What do you think?

Would 215's also work with a 38mm offset wheel?

see further up in this post a detailed explaination of what the OE tires bear for load capacity. If the 215/40 size is inflated to 36 psi ( where max load is achived) 215/40 (1074 lbs) still does not meet the load requirements engineered into this vehicle.(1140 lbs)

is it dangerous to drive on my 215/40/17's then? I usually am by myself and if ever just have a single person in the car... if that matters?

I base this data off what Mini engeneered for load capacity requirments on your car. I would not claim to understand the suspenion, or cornering loads required better than the people whom designed the car.

Thanks Alex, nice info. The 215/45-17's sounds the best overall. But are those two wheels quoted above the only 2 that will clear big brakes without a spacer. There are quite a few on your list that have a big offset, what's the differance?
Also do you know what the stock 17x7.5 mini lite wheels weigh?

Thanks

The design of the spokes and their shape on the caliper extension side can restrict many wheels fitting. the shape of the flange on mounting surface. The S light weight is in the FAQ at the top of the forum.

Thanks Alex, looks like 25lbs for the 17" s-lite. I have another question though, if I went 18x7.5or18x8 which wheels will work without spacers on the stoptech or brembo big brakes? Then also you rec a 225/40-18 size tire?
