A large part of the problem with that image comes from the lighting in the scene. Your car seems to be in deep shade while the background is in bright sunlight.

Your exposure seems to be a compromise between the two and fails at both. The highlights in the background are "blown out" -- they are pure white with no detail. The shadows are "blocked up" -- pure black with no detail. You are shooting a scene where the dynamic range of brightness is far greater than your camera can record.

When you next try to photograph the car, look for a scene where it is more evenly lit. If the car is in shade, the background should be as well. If it is in sunlight, it all should be in sunlight.

Bright sunlight is not the easiest light for shooting cars. You get much better results from a somewhat overcast sky. That gives diffused light that is more even -- no harsh shadows.

no joke! I put shiny white Prodrive wheels on the wife's Cool Blue Cabrio and I had to wait until the longshadows appeared to get a proper pic of them....otherwise, they'd wash out the pic and appear to be radioactive

There's a reason for the existence of the 'golden hour' in photography. Bright sunlight doesnt mix with cameras.

Since the other guy was too busy tooling on your photo to actually offer any constructive criticism.....check this link for some info on shooting pics of your MINI: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=36382

Setting your camera in "P" (Program) mode or the green camera (Full Auto) would be a great start until you learn how to manually play with exposures and bracketing .

Hmm I like those wheels surprisingly.. Seems ACS is doing nothing but rice these days.. I like the ones they're putting on the M6's...

mcs2004 do I fall into the category of wheels you think are nice? Hehe

It is true though, some people are a bit touchy when someone calls them out about their car, or photo lol...

I guess reading the post before criticizing it would have been too much to ask. groove67 was offered a link to a book that would probably help. Although I do not read them, I do know that the For Dummies books are targeted at people who require help with the basics of given subjects.

These wheels might be better without the retro-90s body kit. Difficult to tell.
