TireRack does it again.. :)

I bought a new pair of front wheels last week with new tires mounted
for my G35C. yah, it wasn't for my MCS, but the experience would
be the same so wanted to share. SSR GT3 19x9 with 050A Pole
Positions 245/35/19's.

After mounting the new front pair onto my car (excited and all ) i
slowly and carefully took her out for its first ride down my usual motoring
route to break-in the tire. After about 10min (5miles or less) into the
slow drive, i started hearing these thumping noises so i stopped and
checked the new tires only to find this on one of the tires...

I took my Civic out right after to see if there was any debris on the road
that i might've ran over. I couldn't find anything.

I sent an email out to TireRack/Colin (Alex was out last week due to
illness so Colin took my order) and also Alex to see if they could help me
out. I drove out to TireRack today and was very promptly taken care
by the lady at the counter, also the gentlemen that took care of
the discussions with the warranty adjuster, the warranty adjuster himself,
and the tech that mounted my new tire.

This wasn't the first time i visited TireRack, but every time I visit the
first thing I notice about their installation area is that all the techs are
smiling. yah, they have a real forward and positive attitude and just willing
to help each customer with care and courtesy. I also got to see
their huge warehouse today all the way to the back. tires after tires
after tires. it is amazing how large and clean this facility is.

Long story short, I got a hookup from Alex/Colin and the whole team for
a new replacement tire, mounted scratch free and balanced perfectly.
I am very happy with the turnout. TireRack continues to exceed
my expectations...and Ive been a customer for over 10years.

thanks again, TireRack!

finished product. woohoo~~! i cant wipe this grin off my face...

Yeah, it's too bad they don't still have the installation facility at the Reno/Sparks warehouse. I'm from Reno originally and have been a TR customer since they opened there in, I'm guessing, mid 80's. Even after I moved to LA, I would still drive up to Reno to get all the work done on my Porsche C2 Cab. I was just a bit saddened when Alex told me last week that they no longer do installations there. Anyone know when they stopped? I know it was a long time ago.

Oh well, at least I found a couple of good TR-authorized shops here in LA.

I really like Marc Norris at Bavarian Workshop in Canoga Park. I'm pretty far away in Pasadena and he'd still be my first choice.

He also did my Dinan installations.

Thanks for the info, they are not too far away(im in Silverlake area), do you use them for tire mounting as well?

I haven't personally yet but will be when I get my new Eagle F1's. Until now, I've always bought wheel/tire packages and had TR do the mount before shipping.

My studio is in Silverlake area - just did the drive from there to Marc on Friday and it wasn't bad at all.

Kenchan,

Good to hear you got it fixed.

You live in Chicago and your drove all the way to Tirerack in Indiana?

Did you take the G35 with different tires or did you drive the bad tire?

Did you take another car and bring along the bad tire?

OK, so how GOOOOOOOOOD is the new RE050A? Of course we know it's mounted on a huge 19" rim.

How about some more pics, ken? Those wheels look awesome on your car, an I love the G35 coupes.
Glad to hear everything worked out well with the tire issue.

yah, it was a 2.5hr trip through many construction zones and congestion.
usually should only take about 2hrs. I took my Legacy to tirerack. i haven't
really had a chance to break the 050A PP's in yet, so i will keep you posted.
unlike the S03's, they grip pretty darn well from the get-go.

Great pictures.

Glad to hear things are getting back to "normal".

OK,
Legacy
Civic
MINI
G35C

How much time do you spend in each in an average month by %?

How much would you "like" to spend?

minihune- first i wanted to thank you for the PM you sent me over
the weekend. it was comforting to hear about these failures from a
tire guru.

as far as spending time ... lately it's been like this:

Legacy- 10%, im driving my kid and pregnant wife around
in the Civic lately. Only use it on the weekend trip to the
supermarket or when i need to move things around.

Civic - about 50%, my main commuter... excellent mpg, comfy car.
MCS - about 20%, only on the weekends.
G35C - about 20%, only on the weekends.

when i take my days off during the week Legacy and Civic
gets used less than 5% combined. then it's motoring
in my "real" cars.

Nice!! I like that front spoiler. I see lots of those running around here, and a few of them lowered, but I can't recall seeing any with aftermarket wheels. If I have, it's probably been 22" Bling wheels.

thanks 70spop- yah, 22" might be TOO HUGE for the car. ive seen 20" and
they were already pretty damn big. i think 19's look the most fit.

Ken! I think I know what happened to your tire:

You didn't happen to see LynnEl hangin' around your car with a pocket knife, did you?

20"... 22"... 28"... it's all the same to me. I can't keep track of all the yahoos running around "Sactown" with big ugly bling on their cars. I've also started seeing where the offenders are putting chrome numbers and letters on the front fenders to brag about the wheel size - I saw a "20JJ" today, and I've seen "22JJ" and "24JJ" before.

Hey glad you got the tire issue resolved, even up in here in Canada Tirerack has a great name, I've ordered from them in the past and been very happy. Nice choice on the 19's for your G35 btw, my second favourite car you're a lucky man to be able to afford both and then some! I tried to convince the wife to give up our new 06 Honda Odyssey Touring and squeeze the kids in the back a G35 coupe, but she didn't go for it.......... no compromise

I bought this G 3yrs ago and the car saleman cracked up when I told him I wanted one cause my wife was 8 months pregnant. He said most customers sell their coupes when they have a baby.

Yeah our two kids love riding in the back of our Mini, but all mom has to do is tell them she has a DVD playing in the van and there out. I actually almost bought a G35C and ended up buying a Maxima SE 6 spd.. compromised!! which eventually gave way to the Mini. Is your coupe a 6 spd? You might like the 19's on my Maxima, look familiar? Have 18"s on the Mini but cheap knockoff's couldn't afford the real thing again!

naw, LynnEl's too lazy to even try Hydro so i don't think he was
that motivated to come out.

their rides.
