Suspension 07 aluminum trailing arms retro-fit?
Thanks for part #s
I've got bushings coming with the arms.
These were not available here back in Sept (unless you own a GP vin#)
Dealers have been holding back until 07 release date to order these.

List price for these back in Sept was $605.00 each
Old news blumini and yes we know what you were asking for.
Hope the dealer can help you. Better check the bushings for part numbers. You may take your car apart and find out you'll be waiting to order more parts.

It's not only that.
this is (partially) unsprung weight. So that means you can have a slightly softer suspension that gives you the same grip. Traction will be improved, and this will effect lots of stuff.
Unsprug weight is the best kind of weight to shed....
Matt
(And in a few years, you 'll be able to get them from wrecking yards!)

my experience is that is will cost at least $1200 to shave 3 lbs./wheel (assuming that one wants all four to match) what if one had light wheels and the aluminium trailing arms? better be ready for another round of suspension tuning.....
Better be making a serious car for the track. You could drop a lot of weight different ways before spending that kind of money. But then again, I spend a lot more on my old 03.
Rear Suspension Update
These are not the correct part #s or prices for 07 MCS trailing arms.
I'm assuming they are part #s for 06 GP trailing arms which must be diamond encrusted
07 R56
33326765377 TRAILING ARM LEFT MSRP 269.00
33326765378 TRAILING ARM RIGHT MSRP 269.00
Bushings are included with arms.
Rear hubs and brackets will also need to be replaced depending on the year of your car. If you include them your total will still be hundreds less than GP arms alone. These prices are for retail purchase. I am a racer so I get a nice price break on parts. YMMV.
Those with experience understand that these kind of upgrades are not for the faint of heart or light of wallet. You must always factor in snafus.
I should have them by next week and I'll update my progress. Thanks to all for your inpute. Your experience is well appreciated.

That's a hell of a difference. I can't see why there's any difference from GP to R56. I'll have to check with my guy at MINI. Something doesn't sound right.
Called Classic and the numbers you have are for the R56. I still think something is wrong. Way too much of a difference in price. I have someone checking with MINI on this.
blumini do you have these on order? I'd be very interested when you get these if they are right.

I've been waiting for months for these parts to become available.BTW, My actual cost for these is 215.20 ea.
I hope your write this up when you're finished blumini. At those prices this is actually quite a reasonable upgrade should one be doing other suspension work. They are about the prices I would expect.
Here's something interesting...
the R53 GP and R56 rear trailing arm bracket (thing that mount to the body shell) is the same. The arm numbers are different, but the 3d rendering on REALOEM is the same! It would be nice to see each side by side.
Now, I wonder if these bolt up to the 02 chassis as well.... Hmmmm

I wouldn't be surprised if the original GP number gets changed to the new numbers. A very big trick car manufacturers use when a new model comes out to keep parts out of peoples hands. Then the changed part goes into all production models, part # changes, cost goes down to cut cars production cost. I've been in the parts business too long and see this happen all the time.
I'm hoping the different part numbers for the hubs and bracket is due to this. I went ahead and included them with the arms just in case. Hopefully I'll be returning them un-used and unnecessary. That should bring the price down on this project substantially. I will report back my progress. Thanks again for everyones support.
It has no official year. It's never born. It was built from a body in white. But the components from the wreck are 2003.
Please advise if they need any modification to swap on to the R53 or it is just a direct swap. Thanks.
arm update
First things first, the weight. My scale is very basic so take it into account for variance. I get a tick over 6 lbs per arm. So 13 lbs for both appears correct.
I'm posting a few picture below. I haven't taken any formal measurements. I figure I'll notice what's different when we bolt it all in.
A few things that we noticed.
A) The shock mating surface is tapered. I'd love for somebody to check their R56/GP shocks to see what they look like where they touch the trailing arm. I hasard a guess that it's metal with some hard bushing. I think we'll have to machine new bushings. No big deal as we already had some in, as we needed it for clearance before. Otherwise the coilsprings would be too close to the wheels (race suspension).
B) None of the bolts holes are threaded (including the wheel speed sensor). Pretty common on this car as most of the suspension to body mounts had to be self threaded with the hardware when we built it. But that was in steel. Doing it in aluminum makes me nervous(especially the lower shock bolt)...may be somebody came chime in on this one. Some bolts now require nuts (where they used to be welded)
C) Make sure you order the hardware. Remember, no nuts welded on the trailing arm. The bearing bolts are also longer. So are the shock bolts (105mm vs. 87).
D) The bushing dimension is the same (see pic, one on top of the other). Main difference is the tapered bushing there too.
E) It'll probably be more than another week before we finish the install. Some hardware to order and some machining to do.
F) No holes for the clip holding the wheel speed sensor wire.

All to save 13 pounds? I am going on a diet.
