Can someone please help me with the corrcet decision on springs

Ive got a cooper s with stock suspension and want to lower it about 30mm.I dont want to ruin the handeling but cant afford to buy new shocks as well. The car handels realy well at presant but im worried that by lowering it ,it will make the handleing worse as im not changing the shocks.

That would be my choice also, but I don't think it'll go 30mm. More like 15-20 according to TXSworks. Of course there might be a bit more after they wear in. The M7 & H-Sport will probably get you to 30mm but I think they are both progressive rates. Keep in mind that you may need to get a set of adjustable front camber plates & lower rear control arms if you go that low.

Perhaps you should wait until you have the $ saved up to do the mod correctly?

well, if he's doing the install himself it'd be fun to do things in steps,
but if one's going to have a shop install it, then yah, do the dampers
at the same time.

I've got the TSW springs in (their measurements are on my car) and I've got a lot of options (heavy car) so I am going to add rear lower control arms fairly soon, just to dial back some of the negative camber in the back.

The car handles much better than stock with just the springs. I'm just worried a bit about premature tire wear with -2.7 degrees of camber in the back (-1 degree is stock) and I'm thinking of putting on some new tires in the Spring, so I want to get the alignment and the rest of the suspension sorted before I do that.

I'm not feeling the NEED for front camber plates. The car handles beautifully. I'm going to add a set of the fixed Ireland Engineering camber plates because I WANT them... not because of anything related to the springs.

I don't know how far the eibach's drop the car, but the TSWs are a very conservative drop and I think that I need 'em. You COULD run heavy camber in the back, but I think that anything over -2 degrees back there on a daily driver is too much.

I've still gotta talk to my local suspension gurus, but I'll probably dial my -2.7 back to -1.5 after the control arms.

Fozworth you have quite an impressive signature...

I used to run Alta springs, then got some new Ultrik's from Mini-Mania. The Ultriks are known for having the largest drop and their rates are similar to factory. I might get some M7 or H&R springs later down the line, but I am satisfied with my current setup. Adjustable control arms are not necessary with lowering springs, but you will have lots of negative camber which will effect tire life and handling.

I have OEM suspension and I am going the H Sport Spring, Ireland Fixed Camber Plate route w/o control arms.

Fozworth, your sig states a modified suspension, but you say it is OEM, am I missing something?
