Which Rear Sway Bar from HELIX

I'm going there tomorrow to get a rear sway bar installed - my choices -

1. H-sport Competition - hollow - 22mm
2. H-sport Sport - not hollow - 19mm

I drive a fair amount of spirited street driving in Wash DC as well as country blasts on the weekend.

Opinions?

hey krut,

remeber me from the dragon? me and my buddy that couldnt find our cabin mates...
i promise i will join DC Metro Minis today , are there still spaces for that kart day?

back on topic:

if you have and S and properly want to get rid of the understeer i would say go for the competition

the only reason i am considering the sport was cuz i have a cooper without SS+, my only worry with the competition was highway twicthes (sp? ) without also stiffening the front

but even then after talking to some people with the comp, who saw me driving on the dragon, they were like for you the sport won't be enough and i took a ride in the cooper (non-S) the difference was awesome and he said he hadnt had any bad things happen on the highway (middle setting)

can anyone else say if they have had highway problems with the comp?

and also here: http://www.h-sport.com/cgi-bin/EDCst...talogno=22810R it says the comp is 25.5mm but i guess as it is hollow it is an effective 22mm that make sense

The H-sport comp is actually about 25mm. It has the effective rate of a 22mm solid bar. Since you dont mention track/autox stuff, I would go for the sport.

First, let me say that it's too bad u didn't consider the RSpeed bar. You can buy 'em off ebay for $150, while I think the H-sport will run ya $225. According to Randy Webb, the RSpeed is the stiffest bar on the market (it's 22mm forged spring steel).

Anyway, back to your question. I installed my RSpeed bar this past weekend. It was a very easy job (2hrs) and I only have basic skills with a wrench. I put it on the middle setting and it works GREAT! And I've had no issues with the steering being overyly twitchy at high speeds. I love the way she handles now! It feels like the turning axis of the car is now right under your seat.

I have the Comp bar. Running the softest setting dials out a good deal of understeer while mantaining streetability. I can still go into a corner too hot and off throttle without the back end stepping out. Even light braking isn't enough to upset it.

The problem I have with the sport bar is that even the stiffest setting on the sport bar isn't as stiff as the softest setting on the comp bar. The perfect street bar would be one right between the sport and comp sizes.

Actually, he says it's the 'strongest bar'. I love mine.
I run it on the softest setting and even that was night and day from the stock bar on the track. Felt pretty neutral to me, without being scary.

If you're comfortable with the effects of lift throttle oversteer, I'd go comp (or Rspeed). Start on the softest setting and go up from there.

What he said [R-speed]! Except it is night and day difference on the road as well!

Some more input.

I am running the JCW suspension on my S and I recently installed the H-Sport Comp bar... I have it set on the middle setting and it is great! Very little understeer and honestly for me I have not had the back end step out on me yet. The car definitely has a much more neutral tendency with a eagerness to kick its rear out a bit. As long as you are smooth and conscious with your throttle and steering you should be ok.

Oh yea, i plan on auto-x and track my car.
