Alta Springs on a cabrio

My boyfriend has a set of alta springs from his 04 MCS hardtop, that we want to put on my 05 MCSC. We emailed alta to make sure they would work, and they told us no. When we inquired as to what it was that wouldn't work they just said they wouldn't (helpful I know).
So I am wondering if anyone has experience with alta springs, or even experience using springs that worked on a hardtop on a 'vert. Anyone know of any reason why they won't work?

Hello Meg,

the difference is in the rear springs, the spring rate is different.
Because the cabrio is a heavier car.

If you install the MCS coupe springs in your cabrio, they will work, but the rear will sit a little lower. Not really recommended.

Hope this helps.

If there is a difference, then why do other companies advertise that their springs will work on the hardtop and the 'vert?

The Cabriolet is a heavier car,

They should have a different part number for the back.

Now, on my personal cabrio, I run a set of Koni sport springs (these are the regular MCS ones since they do not have the ones for the cabrio yet),
it works, but the back is 1/4 to 1/2" lower then it should.

Victor,
Thanks for the help. They way alta made it seem, it was like the springs would destroy the car or something. We will also be changing out the struts to konis.
Thanks!

Meg,

On my cabrio S, I am running the Koni yellows and the koni sport springs, I do have a solution for the rear that I am going to try this week end,
I am going tu add a 1/4" rubber spacer between the rear shock perche and the rear spring, that way the rear will be at the right high.

I will try7 to get you some before and after pics

im not surprised by their emails. :impatient

btw, did anyone ever figure out the spring rate for the Alta's? mystery
to us and to them...i guess. i remember someone posting after
trying them out on their stock dampers and he said it performed like crap
over the stock dampers (spring rate too high).

in that respect, the extra weight of the cabrio might be actually good
for ride comfort...plus if you're doing koni's should be a fairly nice ride.

if the rear ends up too low, you can always make some gaskets and
raise the rear a little as long as you have enough threads on the top
mount bolt that holds the hats onto the car.

Thanks for all the info. We're gonna go for it. Probably within the next month before the bf trades in his MINI (we're gonna have to replace his aftermarket stuff, with my stock stuff).

Hi, I am new to the forum. I just purchase a set of Alta lowing spring used. I can not find any information about them as far as the stiffness, how much lower than stock front & rear. Since Meg boyfriend had them on his MCS he may be able to give some info. Cheer!
