How Strong are H-Sports

Since living in NJ I come across a good amount of pot holes and I was wondering since I have H-Sports on, how strong are those springs. I hit two big ones today and was wondering how many do you have to hit until I get a crack in my springs. Anybody know?

don't worry, you will bend your control arms before "cracking" a spring

I live in western PA. A lot of the roads here have a similar ride to downtown Bagdahd. I've had the H-sports for over a year with no troubles.

You'd have to take a torch to one to damage it. We pulled one off a wrecked Late Model that was bent double and it springed right back.

In general lowering springs are not the weakest link to damage from potholes-

Runflat tires
Stock rims
Strut tower plates
Shock tower plates
control arms
Stock shocks

All these have been damaged from run ins with potholes from hell and beyond.

Be careful when driving at night on in unfamilar areas- go slow when needed.

I had H-sport springs for about 1.5 years and they did fine with road conditions and a few potholes.

I live in NYC and I guarantee nowhere, nowhere in the world has worse streets than we have here right now. I've had the H-Sports for about a year now and while the ride over many bumps is quite jarring, the springs have held up fine. However, I did burst through and lose one of the bumpstops that came with the H-Sports and without that piece every bump felt like someone was hitting the car with an iron mallet. It was fairly easy to fix however.

They are 1/2" diameter steel wound into a spiral. They hold the car up. They are plenty strong. Worry about the lessened shock/strut travel. With stock struts, you don't dissapate any more energy, and you loose about an inch of shaft travel. Bump stops are a must, and eventually, a 2x4 and hammer to flatten the shock towers....

In general, lowering a car makes bent rims/other parts more likely due to the reduced travel. But springs don't break unless they were improperly made. They may sag after many years, but break? no.

Minihune where did you find these potholes from the netherworld?

And I guarentee you we have worse roads here in southeast Michigan. I have been around the greater NY area and have found nothing that compares to Michigan roads. Ever been slightly airborne while driving down the freeway due to a pothole?

I hit a pothole on I-10 @ 610/290 going Westbound, bounced a few inches in the air, and immediately limped down the offramp into a parking lot. Snapped the spring, and bent the shock. Good thing that was my truck and not my mini!

Want bad roads come up here to downtown Montreal. I hit a pothole in my old '02 MCS when I first moved up here and had $1000 worth of damage to my front suspension. Winter really kills the riads up here. I'm going to take it real easy this year with the current '05 since I have H-Sports now..
