Its really not a problem but it does start a bunch of conversations when the neighbors see it.

Yeah! Two days ago, after a year and half of MINI ownership, I watched my wife pull away from me over the sharp top lip of a steep driveway. One of the rear wheels came 6" off the ground. Whoa! First time I had noticed that! Of course, she didn't feel anything.

Hey your car looks absolutely fabulous, very nice job you've done. When the neighbors make a comment about something like that just tell them they should feel what it's like doing that at 100mph

What suspension do you have? I had this problem in my S4. I had an H&R Street coilover suspension on it, never that high though..

I have pss9 coil overs with an r-speed 22mm rear bar set on the middle setting. All things considered it rides pretty good

I painted it myself. It needs to be re-done it looks a little spray can in person. I actually painted it with taillight tint paint hoping to get an anodized look but by the time I got full coverage it eliminated the chrome showing through. I am going to take it off and match it to the car. I am sure what I put on there will scratch easilly.

Your pic reminds me of a similar "problem" I had with a classic I had while I was in high school. Every day after school let out, I'd find either the back or front end LIFTED over the curb...nice to know some things never change.

This is caused by a stiff sway bar...should give you any idea for what happens to the inside rear wheel while negotiating a turn.

Yup, happens to us all the time. Cracks me up whenever I see it

Seems to be a result of the short wheelbase vs the suspension - have/had cars with as stiff or even stiffer suspension that have never kept one wheel in the air coming out of the garage

...it's the sway bar, not the suspension per se...

its definitly got a lot to do with the bar. We also have a cooper and its stock ( sport suspension ) and it rarely lifts the wheel at all on the same driveway.

Interesting. Still though, wheelbase has to be a big part of it 'cause at least one other car, the E46, has heavy aftermarket sways along with stiff shocks and overall stiffer suspension then the MCS and its never happened in that car (well at low speeds anyway

I am sure the short wheelbase has a lot to do with it also. I was just saying the cooper with the stock bar doesnt do it.

I didnt mean to discount what you said about the short wheelbase.

I never took what you wrote as anything but good information Sway bars do cause this condition - lots of roll stiffness. Remember that a sway bar can lift the inside rear tire as the Mini corners. This is yet another manifestation of lots of roll stiffness. This can happen with long wheel base cars too; I have a 99 Si with a 25mm rear bar, does it every time. This is a great aid, by the way, when rotating directional tires; you only need to jack up the car from one jack point (front) and both wheels come off the ground...which I can do with the stock Mini interestingly enough...so perhaps wheel base makes it a bit easier for a given bar weight. Sounds logical...still caused by swaybars though

Nice looking Mini by the way.

Michael

thanks, and I do like jacking from one spot to do both tires !

I need to do th equaife next, I get alot of insde tire spin in some uphil corners where the turn is tight and you need to try and use all th epower we have.
