Beveled Washer Molded into lower bushing of rearshock

Question for those who've swapped out rear shocks on GP1's or those fitted with Aluminum trailing arms. On the stock GP1 shocks, the lower bushing has a beveled washer and tube molded into it which fits into the corresponding recess of the trailing arm. The beveled portion on the shock is not removeable. I doubt there will be any issue in doing without said beveled fitting but wonder if anyone has a substitute. Without it, the base of the new shock is firmly affixed to the trailing arm but about 1/2 inch outboard from the original.

It sure what you’re asking, but you definitely want that beveled washer in there. I’ve read of the shock bolt snapping without it.

Could you just use the 2nd gen rear shock with the 1st gen car when upgrading the rear control arms and replacing the struts at the same time? If so, this would save a couple of dollars. I don't what the difference is between the 1st & 2nd gen rear shocks.

Possibly but that's not my case. If someone went to the trouble of upgrading to the AL trailing arms, I would think that they would want something more than the stock shocks.

I looked at the 2nd gen shocks and they cost about $40 more for each shock so there is NO cost savings. So I will be ordering a set from WMW

I am upgrading to the aluminum trailing arms for no other reason than they were cheap at $35 for the complete kit and I am installing new struts all the way around anyway. I don't expect or desire any performance gain. I am going with the Koni red active shocks. This is a convertible JCW so I am not looking to stiffen the suspension. Plus it is a touring car that we take out on weekends and we will never take it to the race track

Good choice! I think you'll find that the KONI Special Actives (formerly FSD's) will be a nice up-grade.
