Hi, When do the shocks go bad on these cars? Is there a manufacturer recommendation?
I have 65k miles on my All4S. Going down the road it kinds does this tail wag hop oscillation thing and then a pitch and yaw around twistys. Still on the Goodyear RunFlats but this doesn't feel like a run flat thing because on smooth road the ride is smooth. I don't want to lower the car. I need the height. I don't want to lift the car. I just want it to behave. I would like to put in a rear sway bar. Shock recommendations welcome.

Click on the vendor directory and do a little shopping first. A stiffer adjustable RSB and KONI Special Active struts are THE best bang for the buck to stabilize handling. The Special Active replaces the FSD.
PS: That car is beyond hope. I rode Destroyers for 5 or 6 years that didn't seem that bad.
A rear sway bar is a really nice gain even if you aren't looking for the handling improvement in the corners as we found it reduces the body roll on the R60 so it feels more like a car than an SUV. https://www.waymotorworks.com/wmw-co...-sway-bar.html

Yes to the sway bar... Thats going in the budget to be changed out at the same time the Shocks are changed.
$1000 for a set of the HDs? I'm used to BMWs but that's more than the M5. What about the B4s? I have the standard suspension. There's a road that is a little "dippy" and that's when the car starts feeling like the video above :p
I'm changing out the wheels and tires next week. Going to 17" rims (live in the country) and either 225/55/17 Generals G-MaxA05 or Falken WildPeaks AT . Will look something like this...
I put Bilstein B6 Shocks on my R58 and I like them a lot. $111/per side on pelican parts. Not sure about installation costs as I did it myself.
If your car looks like the car in the video then yeah, you probably need new shocks. I had to replace a blown front strut at about 68k miles (only did one because $$$, and I want to upgrade to bilstein struts anyway now that I have some disposable income). Just did my rear shocks at 75k although they weren't completely blown out yet. It certainly varies between each individual car.

It's not out of the norm as I've done many sets of shocks on 60k cars that needed them, but also had 150k cars that didn't so it's all case dependent.
I'm not a fan of the B4s as I feel the are just really cheap and just a cheap replacement and the fit on them isn't perfect on the spring perches.

Way, thanks for the input on the B4s. I just put those 17" wheels with the GMax-05 225/55/17's on (in the picture below). Now it really does the boat pitch and yaw. Like now its scary to drive compared to the 18" turbofans and the 225/45/18 Summer Efficient Grips ROF. It was just annoying heavy (lumpy hard kinda thing) then with a good amount of sway. NOW its scary! Today I went over the railroad tracks and the car was doing the tail bounce for several feet after. In the twisty turns of the mountains it is scary...not fun to drive, feels like it is leaning to flip and the tires losing grip..was wondering if that amount of sway was due to the 55/17 tire combination (why would anyone put on 17s and 55 tires with that kinda deflection, yet its all over this forum?) so it can't be the tires...can it?... are the General Gmax-05 that soft on the sidewall? or is it the combination of taller tires, BAD SHOCKS and NEED NEW SWAY BAR. I feel like the ROF were doing better in the handling dept (except a little heavy and hard) or if the shocks now are just showing to be worse than before. I also got out and bounced on the door sill and the car was acting squishy. About ready to put the 225/45/18 ROF back on.

Thank you for your feedback about the B6. B6 for the Countryman are much more costly than your R58. How do you like your B6?

According to the Bilstein catalog, the B6 will work for the All4 model. Having just swapped Megan Racing to Bilstein B14 kit in my Clubman, I would recommend NOT going with the Megan coilovers. Get the B6 if you want to stay at stock ride height.
