Koni FSD

They have these on sale. Would they be any good for Autocross? I mean my stockers have 116k miles on them so I'm sure anything would be better.

FSD struts would be fine unless you intend lowering then you'd want Yellows. While you have it up on a lift changing out the struts, wrench loose the rear sub frame and replace the sway bar with a 22 MM adjustable while you're under there. You won't believe the difference in handling.

Although most serious autocrossers have the JCW suspension and Koni yellows, the FSDs have been used successfully.

I thought I couldn't modify the springs since I only have the S model if I wanted to stay in D Street.

With OEM coils then the FSD strut is the one you want. I've not kept up on the SCCA rule book, It's been near 50 years since I tracked and I'm sure things have changed with the times plus what I've long forgotten. I'd still add the stiffer RSB.

You can run any suspension that was available as a factory or port-installed option. That means stock, sport, or jcw suspension if they were options on your car. Shocks and one anti-sway bar may be replaced. The picture in your gallery appears to be a gen2.

Hope this guy gets things set up smoothly and has an absolute blast dodging the cones. FWIW, there is stuff you can wrap around the lower body work to keep from getting cone juice all over your motor. didn't have that back in the day, we just worked all the harder to avoid them.

Oh, it does, but if you are one of the few who likes to go fast (when appropriate) and is also OCD (obsessive compulsive detailer) the obvious conflict creates some kind of psychosis.

try to get a ride along with me this coming event. i've got the factory jcw springs and custom valved bilsteins. should be a good bit different from stock. i say no to fsd's though, they're too soft. im not a koni yellow fan either at that. bilstein sports or hd's are a good damper IMO

So I bought some JCW Springs for a little over $200. I think that's a good deal. I'll just ahve to decide on the dampers then get the energy to install.

yes, and i dont know. i gave the vendor my vin first, and then they gave me the correct springs.

the spring rates are different based on the options you have, sunroof, trans etc. no one will REALLY care unless you win at nats, but if u got stiffer springs than you're options allow, you technically won't be legal.

Oh that makes sense. I bought them off of a seller on the forums so I'm not sure how to check that. I guess I could attempt to contact the dealer to see what the correct part number would be.

I'm not going to be setting any records anytime soon so if I get around to installing them this season I don't think many people would mind.

The springs have paint marks on them if I recall....I indicates spring rates....
Using the wrong sprigs for a given cars weight may result in an overly harsh ride....but to be honest, aftermarket units just have an "average" spring rate for all options....so you might not notice the difference unless you are an elite driver...

It appears he may have bought the JCW springs taken off of a coupe. It was quite awhile before those were available so I don't think there is much chance they will be correct for a hardtop even though the total weights were within 20 pounds. I can't believe there is enough difference in the spring rates to matter but BMW obviously does. Last time I looked there were no JCW springs available for a roadster.

I do know this: The sport suspension on my 2010 hardtop was the most beautifully balanced factory setup I have ever autocrossed so maybe the correct springs do matter.

He did have a coupe. I should have did a little more research. Is there a knowledgeable parts guy on this forum who may know what the markings on the springs signify? I think mine have 2 white and a blue stripe.
