DDC vs. KW V1

I currently have a 2019 JCW with DDC. I want to reduce the body roll as much as possible. I installed an NM RSB already but am thinking about adding the V1's. I don't care as much for the drop as I do handling. For anyone that has changed from either the DDC or sport suspension to the KW V1 please let me know what your thoughts are and if it improved your handling.

I would suggest going with a set of KW V2 as they are much better than the V1 and will really improve the handling. We use them on that 3 F56 builds we have done. If you really want to go for it we even have an open box set of V3s that are a great deal.

Oh, KW is a brand of shocks! I still don't know what DDC means. Thanks Way.

I haven't heard of either, but it helps when you don't write in code.

Seeing you have a 2019 and would still have a warranty, why not just buy the John Cooper Works Pro Sport Chassis setup. That way you still get your 4yr/50K warranty with it. At least that's what I ordered. The dealer said they could still install if you have DDC.

What scares me about the V2 is that you can't adjust the rear once installed. I know people have a workaround but I don't want to drill into the car.

The link says "It is currently not possible to install the JCW PRO Sport chassis in combination with the Dynamic Damper Control (SA 223).". Has this changed?

Honestly most people just set the rears to the middle and never adjust them again. At that setting they are actually really good ride quality.
The KW DDC kits also include the modules to bypass the DDC which is needed to make it all work right.

The JCW kit doesn't offer a kit for the DDC cars, and you can't put the JCW kit on a DDC as it physically won't fit.

Looks to me like the "open box" V3 with DDC fell on your lap . Might be a bit stiff and pay attention to the drop amount, see if that works for you.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Do you mind sharing more information on this? I have a F56 with DDC and have some Bilstein B14 waiting to be mounted with KW DDC cancellation kits.
Is it a different top mount? do you have pictures or more information you can share please.

DDC and non DDC cars have numerous parts that are different including mounts, shaft size and so on. So that is why they are not interchangeable.

Aren’t the “modules” just plugs to seal the disconnected DDC cables? That’s how it appears in their installation manual.

I am curious as to why, if the KWs fit in DDC-specced cars, why the JCW Pro suspension (which is basically a KW v1, made by them and branded for Mini) would not also fit?

DDC is what MINI calls it. It’s a different system than what’s on BMWs with EDC.

My Mini F55 ‘16 build sheet states ‘Electronic Damper Control’ EDC S223A.

Just saying...

I have a '19 Cooper S 3 door hatch (not a JCW, even though I have the tune and exhaust). Came with DDC. I hated it. Initially, the dealer said they couldn't swap out for the JCW Pro suspension, so I went aftermarket. I did have to buy KW's DDC cancellation kit for everything to work (this is an assumption, since I didn't attempt to install the aftermarket kit *without* the cancellation kit). Anyway, long story short, went back to the dealer told them I *really* wished I could do the Pro suspension. So they did. Yes, I have the JCW Pro suspension on a DDC car.

Caveat: The Pro suspension is covered under parts/labor warranty, but not under the original 4yr/50k warranty. But, the suspension is awesome

Good to know! We're buying a 2018 Cooper S with DDC, and I was hoping this was possible. Thanks!

It's not as easy as it sounds as there are various other parts like the mounts and such that would also need to be replaced if a car had DDC and you bought a non DDC coilover kit like the JCW. That is why it is better to just go with a KW V2 kit for a DDC car as it includes the modules to bypass the DDC and the correct size shocks and that to reuse the stock mounts so you don't have to buy extra parts. https://www.waymotorworks.com/kw-var...overs-f56.html

Thanks, Way.

Seems like a good option. Still weighing our options. Don't even have the car, yet, so we'll see.
