Just Lowered

Just got my car back yesterday from Glenelg Service center in MD. Had lowering springs put on and she looks good . Havent been able to test it out on any twisty roads yet, so that will be my main objective for tonight . But I am real happy with their work and will be taking my MCS back to them this Dec. for some more mods. So for anybody in maryland looking for a place to take there mini for some mods this is the place I suggest.

Whose springs did you put on? Rubbing issues? More or less compliant over normal road surfaces? Does car behave better on tight curves?

Have you changed any other suspension parts?

Do they make your MINI more fun to drive?

They are Alta's springs. No I dont have any rubbing issues. There is more road vibration due to the springs being stiffer but I have no compliant over it. And so far the car does seem to behave alittle bit better when cornering harder. No I havent changed anything else on the suspension but all that is in the near future.Oh yeah........Its deffenately more fun to drive .

Where in MD

I work in MD and was interested in having this done. Where in MD is Glenelg? And what was the cost of having this done. Also, post some b4 and after pics if you get a chance.

Cheers

Its up in Glenwood off of I70 westboud. I really wish I could post some pics of it but I dont have a digital camera or a scanner . And all together with them putting the springs on and 4 wheel alignment it was like 475.

The shop location

Is actually located in Inwood according to Map Quest. It is on Rt.97 Old Georgia Av. west, almost to Rt. 144. I will try and attach the Map.

I had my 03 MCS lowered by VERTEX Motorsports in Tysons, VA. H&R sport springs...excellent feel and lowering but a bit bouncy at the limits.

I put on the M7 springs and the ride was as compliant as stock in normal driving but in tight turns the car handles much better. Coupled with getting rid of the run flats, these springs are more comfortable than a brand new S. Of course they lowered the car quite a bit and you have to be careful at driveway entrances etc.

I think that what most of us are hearing with lowered cars is the small wind deflector under and slightly rear of the front bumper. That is what rubs on mine with driveway entrances etc.

That deflector is what rubs on dips and driveway entrances...but only slightly. The wheels (tires) don't rub and the front lip doesn't rub so the improved handling and the lowered look is worth the slight occasional rub.

How would you compare the ride of the Alta Springs as to stock. When you compress them on bumps does it get "firmer" or closer to "harsh"? Be honest!

About how much do you think it lowered your car? It looks awesome.

I am trying to decide between brands of springs. M7 and Alta are the contenders. A comfortable ride is hugely important.

The springs did not give it that bad of a ride. Actually you cant tell that much that they are on there until you start driving aggresive and cornering hard then you can tell your car is handeling better. Big bumps you can tell the stiffness of the springs but its not bad at all IMO. And as far as telling if it was lowered you can tell by the whole stance of the car it was lowered. I didnt see it much because im around the car all the time but friends of mine that havent seen it that much before and then after I did the springs they could tell that I had lowered it. But im not disapointed at all with the ALTA springs. Infact i was about to order the Sway bar from them.

Control Arms

You may want to add the control arms...sooner than later unless you want to wear out the inside of your tires very QUICKLY
I just put fronts and rears on due to my tires being almost bald on the inside edges...
Put Alta on the front and BMP Pro Mini on the rears (they look WAY cool from the back), went a "little" crazy while I had it in the shop, put Alta adjustable sway bar links front and rear, 22mm rear sway bar, and an oil cooler from Moss Mini also
Snowing in Ohio so I'll have to give an update on how she drives after the roads clear

Yeah those will be soon enough, along with the rear sway bar. Dont know if I want to stay with alta with there sway bar because of it matching the spings and all or goin with the H sport bar. Although im leaning towards the H sport because its alittle bit thicker.

Sway bar

I did the RDR sway bar (www.outmotoring.com) I liked the collars so it stays in place during spirited driving.
I also miss informed, it's a 21mm bar

The H sport competition rear bar is 25.5mm i think? Also has the different settings along with the grease fittings and all.
