Rear sway bar over bumps

So since it's gotten colder outside I've noticed everytime I go over bumps my rear of the car makes like a squeak noise. During the fall there was no noise there. I'm going to Detroit tuned Tuesday and I will have them drive my car then, but I'm wondering if anyone has this issue? Keep in mind when I had my OEM sway bar in last winter I had no issues in weather below 40 degrees. I also had to replace my stock endlinks as well since the original ones were garbage.

Thanks!

Have you tried greasing it? Most of the aftermarket bars have zerk fittings so you can grease them to avoid squeaking.

Chad at DT greased the crap out of it. I looked under a few days ago and it's still greased up. I will ask him to possibly regrease it if it's not those stupid endlinks again.

Thanks for the input!

Interesting...I'm pretty sure it's my 19mm H Sport that I installed last winter that I've been hearing squeak the last few days. It's only been in the low 50s lately. I'll have to try regreasing it.

If your zerk fitted bushings are like mine it's a waste of time to even try and grease them with a grease gun, Why,because the bushing has one little groove straight across. The grease goes in follows the groove out. The bushing needs to have a spiral groove completely around to do any good. When I had mine installed I ask to have them use the tube of grease that came with the kit. They did not. I finally took the bushings off the shaft to check them. Bone dry. Hand greased them and this took care of things for a long time I hope. This is what I found with the VIP 19mm swaybar.

My Hsport came with two sticky grease pillow packs. I used one for the two bushings, therefore have an extra one. The first pack covered both bushings pretty good. I hope I don't have to take apart my sway bar and grease it every year.

I'm due, got the squeak with the cooler temps. I'm going to try the grease zerks before taking the brackets off. Lyndell is most likely correct.

What kind of grease are you using in your grease gun? Can you find the sticky grease they supply with the bars at a local hardware store?

I think the sticky grease is put out by Energy Suspension - called Formula 5. I only found it in the small squeeze pack at a local non-chain auto parts store.

That's what I was afraid of. How are we supposed to regrease using zerks when we can't find a tube to attach to?

I just bought a tube of Lucas "Red 'N Tacky #2" at NAPA. I think the operative in any grease bought for this application is Marine. If it can stand up to constant water\moisture and submersion, It ought to be just the ticket for sway bushing. I just hope I don't have to pull the brackets, although I bet I will.

So today I listened very closely, and it's my passenger side rear sway endlink...again. Made a set appointment at Detroit Tuned and I'm getting there endlinks installed over these pathetically designed OEM endlinks.

It's highly unlikely your OEM end-links are squeaking. On the other hand, you implied that you had installed aftermarket end-links previously - in which case all bets are off.
OEM end-links don't squeak, but they do clunk/rattle when worn off.

Squeaking is way more likely to come from the polyurethane bushings you likely had installed with the aftermarket sway bar. If so, you can re-grease them with whatever goo was provided, but first wrap few layers of teflon tape on the bar, then re-install.

YMMV,
a

P.S.: 18F this morning, rear Eibach sway bar quiet with the above lubrication approach.

No it's the passenger rear endlink as I drove over bumps it wouldn't squeak anymore, it now does the whole clunking thing it once did before I swapped out the old ones.

Those endlinks are comically cheap. When you compare them to something like the links WMW sells it becomes evident that they are junk.

I know Shane, after this second time I refuse to buy another OEM pair. I will just buy the ones Detroit Tuned sells, similar to the WMW ones.

I picked up a set from way. I believe they are powergrid links. Everything's been sound since I put them in. I posted a short video on YouTube showing how one end on the stock links had gone bad, causing the clunking sound on the rear of my car.

Just received replacement rear sway bar bushings from VIP. They have grease channels completely around and across the bushing. Looks like these should solve the problem after I get them installed.

Are grease channels on the inside (sway bar side) our outside (bracket side) of the bushing?

wrapping the bar in teflon tape helps a lot.

energy suspension grease works well.

also, make sure your endlinks are properly torqued (though that usually leads to a clunk, not a squeak).

WMW said teflon was not required on the H-Sport bars. I am sure it helps, just a lot of conflicting guidance out there.

With the right grease and a proper install, it's not needed. I don't use the tape on this car with the eibach rear bar and I have no noise.
