TCE Performance brake dilemma.......

So here's my dilemma (if you could even call it that)......

@ MOTD10, I was lucky to receive a $500 gift cert. to TCE Performance on bingo night.

Problem is I really don't need a BBK for a daily driver (other than they look cool as hell, but I haven't even got wheels that would show them off (S-Lites) so....). I drive it hard @ MOTD and just spirited driving on a daily basis (and I'm a tranny user, brakes last a while for me). No track time in the near future or mabey ever. The cheapest kit for my R53 is $900 + $100 for drilled/slotted (let's face it, if I gotta buy a BBK, rotors will have to be hella-coo!) + labor to get them installed. It'll be quite a while before I can save up for the remaining $ to do this and the GC is only valid through September.

So do I just get the SS lines and however many pads I can stock up on so I don't have to pay for pads later. They sell Wilwood. Think I could get an upgraded set of rotors that will fit my stock calipers? I can't really justify spending $1000+ on a BBK for just the front (I know the front does most of the work) for a daily driver.

But I basically have $500 burning a hole in my pocket and it's driving me insane! Has anyone dealt with TCE, you think they can/are willing to put together a kinda "Stage Kit" package for me like other companies offer (SS lines, green pads, rotors) or something.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Todd @ TCE is on here and really knowledgeable. Seems like a great guy to work with so I would expect just sending him a message explaining your thoughts is a safe idea.

That's exactly what I did first. I just enjoy conversing with my MINI community.

Looking on their site I'd go for the pads and SS lines. As an example I ran EBC Red stuff and SS lines on my Suzuki Swift rally car with the performance being awesome. No fade at all. So if they have something similar go for that and add the slotted dippled rotors if you have money left over. I'm going to run EBC Rotors,Yellow pads and SS lines on my MC

And this was my original thought before I won the gift certificate. Most MINI owners have suggested, for a daily driver and not auto-x-ing, upgrading to the SS lines, pads and possibly rotors was all I really needed and that it would be a very noticeable upgrade over stock. And if upgrading the rotors, the front would be sufficient. Sound right?

I personally wouldn't replace rotors until they're ready to be replaced. You won't notice a gain. If they're due to be replaced, go for it.

But yeah, pads/lines/fluid will be a nice little upgrade.

ah yes I forgot the fluid.I use Motul. As said rotors would be the last swap as the grooveed/dipple give some noise under heavy braking.

We'll talk in a bit....being out for a few days there's a lot of calls to return so hang in there.

We'll work out something I think you'll be happy with.
