SuspensionSprings, struts, coilovers, sway-bars, camber plates, and all other modifications to suspension components for Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs.
I've put 1,000 mi or so on mine since the lift. No problems But I do need an alignment after hitting a massive hole in the road a little while ago. I think I'm going to try the DIY string method as I believe I can do it better than an expensive machine operated by a 19 year old kid at Firestone since I actually care to get it right.
I will say that the lift does change the camber a good bit and you will need to buy more parts to correct that. I got a set of adjustable rear camber links to replace the fixed stock lower ones. This gave me an adjustment to return to a negative camber in the rear, it was pretty much Zero after the lift. And I still need to get camber plates for the front, they are close to Zero also.
I bought the H-Sport Rear links from Way at WMW, but I really DON'T suggest you do so. I was close to Atlanta for work so I went to the store in person and as I was paying I explained to Way that I had put the lift on and this was to help the camber, Way proceed to tell me how dangerous and stupid lifts are and that he thought I was dumb to have done it. I understand theres a difference in opinion but WOW. Some customer service right? Not to mention the customer on the phone that he was making fun of while I was there.
My lift is finally installed too. The rears were pretty easy. Fronts were even easier since I had both axles out (leaky boots).
The list of repairs also included replacing the valve cover gasket, bypass valve (broken spring), water pump, crank position sensor O-ring and oil pan gasket. I was only able to do this by watching all the ModMini videos, reading the Bentley manual and buying another $200 or so in tools.
The supercharger looked in fine shape so I didn't do anything other than change the oil. Very anxious to see what replacing the bypass valve will do. I believe the spring has been broken since I bought it and now I know why I was so under-whelmed with performance.
I guess this belongs in a different thread, but here's some pics anyway. Hope to get it on the road this weekend.
I know this is a pretty old thread, however, what is the total offset of your wheels, wheel spacer included? Thanks! They seem pretty heavily negative, but I could be wrong.
Wow, thats an amazing job It must feel really satisfying to finally see your lifted Mini driving down the road after so many hours of work and even a hospital visit. I like that you’re thinking about adding custom fender flares and a bull bar next those will really finish the look. Out of curiosity, when planning a lift like this, do you usually check resources or guides from places like Metrowest Car Service to understand the suspension setup and alignment? It’s inspiring to see that with patience and effort, a project like this can really come together.
