Hey Rally, I've been eyeing the Airrex bags and want to manage with Accuair E level but piece those together and it's rather pricey.

I thought you were using the Airrex.
Do you think it's alot cheaper to build strut/bag setup ?
Thanks

No, I'm not on airrex. I'm on a setup that I pieced together from random parts along with some custom mounts and such.

"Bagged" MINIs, "salad shooter" wheels...yes, a very educational thread indeed.

Car-craziness takes all dimensions

Rally do you have a build thread for your air setup? I really want to go air for my clubbie vs going static but as your aware nobody has a setup for our cars. Ksport supposedly has an air setup as well as Airrex but im not to sure I trust either, even though Ive had Ksport coils before and never had any issues out of them. If you dont mind I would like to know everything that you used to make your kit.

If I were to choose... I'll go Airrex.
I almost pulled the trigger but then my Beautiful New Baby Girl was just Born, so that takes priority first.

What makes you want to use the Airrex kit?

That's all your opinion. I like my mini's on the f****** ground. Nothing wrong with it at all. Especially if were talking air ride. Functional, and low as ****. I wish I had the money to get extra suspension parts and the air ride kit to do it to mine... But for now I just dumped it on 16x9 +13 and 16x7.5 +19 BBS RS and left it at that.

not sure why the static guys care the air-ride guys do. I don't think it affects them in any way, shape, or form. To each his own.

Agreed.

I think that slammed/hellaflush/stretch/poke/ridiculous camber are becoming the hipsterisms of the automotive scene, but who cares? Some I still think look good, others not so much. Do what you want with your own car. Don't be a **** about what other people enjoy.

All I'm saying... I hate seeing bagged S or JCW MINI Coopers. Do whatever the heck you want to a non-s, but don't ruin the handling on the higher-performance cars. These cars are meant to handle well and changing the suspension over to bags ruins it. I have experienced first hand how horribly bagged cars handle... I have driven 5 or 6 of my friends' "high performance" air ride and it was terrible! They all claim how great their bagged cars handle though, which confuses me?

Another pet peeve of mine is when guys and gals on air always say "low is a lifestyle"... no, no it isn't for you. The only time 95% of them have the car truly low is when they are parked. Annoys the hell out of me.

But you're right, you can do whatever you want to your car, I was throwing out my opinion.

Besides, bags are for groceries.

Well, now you're implying base Coopers don't handle as well as forced induction models, which is false. I'll pit my R50 against any S or JCW through tight bends... Especially one running VMAXX coilovers

I never said they didn't handle as well, I'm saying the non-s is not as performance oriented of a machine so it doesn't bother me as much. Kind of like how it doesn't bother me as much when people bag VW Golfs vs when they bag R32s. I think many people would agree with me on this point.

I don't understand your comment on the V-Maxxs, what is wrong with them? Have you driven a MINI with Vmaxxs before? They are low priced, does this mean they are low quality? No. I love these coilovers.

I can feel you on ruining something like a GP or maybe a JCW pack, but S models are pretty much a dime a dozen right now so it's not really like they're taking away from the crop too much. I'm sure what your firneds mean when they say their bagged MINI handles well is that it handles well for a bagged car. Of course it isn't going to handle as well as one on a conventional static setup.

I really don't have much of a problem with the fact they enjoy their cars most when they're at a stop. They just created something that is a piece of art that happens to also move. That's kind of the opposite of you and me who prefer cars that move really fast and happen to be mildly good looking.

Low certainly is a way of life and I'm not sure who you think you are to tell someone that aren't living a way of life. When you drive low, static at least, you have to avoid many things that most people wouldn't pay a second glance to because it could just render their car useless. They also have to change a lot of the way they do things in their life to fit around their car and it's needs. Low is most certainly a way of life, it's just a different one.

The point of bags is that you can have your car on the ground when parked and lowering-spring/stock height when driving. At least that is what I have experienced, from people rolling into car shows, driving down the road, etc, I'm not sure about what you have seen. How is this living a "low life" or whatever the quote is? Low is not a lifestyle for you if you can push a button and have stock ride height... That's what so fun about being as low as I am- finding ways to maneuver the car out of sticky situations on a daily basis. This is what I consider a lifestyle, not just pushing a button and getting a get out of jail free card.

oh yeah I totally agree with you on that one. If anyone is claiming the "low is a lifestyle" crap and riding on bags then they're full of ****. Bags are more comfy over bumps though

My point is that you're offended that people "ruin" the handling with bags, but youre running cheap coils with a reputation for poor handling primarily chosen to get low as **** without spending much.

From a handling perspective, the S has no performance edge over a base, and we are talking about suspension, after all.
