That seems like an odd speculation. My bagged MINI has many purposes.

-It's my daily driver. I use it to get to work/groceries/bars/social events.
-I use it to haul around work gear to and from client meetings.
-I take it out on lovely casual drives and enjoy the fun of owning a MINI.
-I take it up to the mountain roads and enjoy the wonderful handling of a MINI.
-I take it to car shows.

That's about as purposeful as it gets and it serves all of those purposes very well.

If planned correctly, an air setup can handle just as well as regular street coilovers. I have a digital management system that corner weights the car on the fly based on 4 independent level sensors attached to each corner. If you load up your car, it readjusts the pressure and corner weights the car dependent on the weight distribution changes. The struts are modified bilsteins and the bags offer total control over your desired spring rates. It handles great and it's still a blast on twisty roads ....at the end of the day it can be nice and low, just like I like it.

The judgemental responses here are entertaining though. I'd venture to guess that many of the judgements have been made with little to no knowledge of the topic at hand. They're simply made based off assumptions and we all know how much value lies in personal opinions spawned from uninformed assumptions

I've got a lot more pics of my bagged MINI here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stanced...7624162208870/

There are a few other bagged MINIs but very few of them are low due to some of the hurdles with our chassis.

I do it for your amusement Rally. As to your statement about opinions based off assumptions.. I've seen firsthand the results of slammed / poke / stretch and apart from looks there's not much. I'll be at the Dragon again, feel free to demonstrate how enthusiastically your slammed cars can be driven while we're there.

You challenged me to that same exact thing a year or two back when you were attempting to insult me for my suspension choice. I didn't happen to cross paths with you in particular, but my bagged MINI made numerous trips up and down the dragon. It handled great and kept up with the coilover equipped MINIs that I was running with. If I hadn't moved to California this spring, I'd be down there yet again....I'll just have to continue enjoying the canyon roads out here now

I'm sure you've encountered poor executions of slam and poke, but that doesn't mean that's the case for ALL cars. There's bound to be a few bad apples in every style and car circle. I've been on bags for 3+ years now and have loved every minute of it. The car still handles great and I can set the spring rates to stiff every time I want to hit the corners aggressively.

You can keep putting people down because you don't personally agree with their suspension choice if that's your thing. I'll just keep enjoying my low car and all the joy it brings me whether I'm cruising low on the straight boulevards or I'm riding higher, hitting the curvy mountain roads.

This may be a dumb question, but what sort of controls do you use to raise/lower the car? Are they interior or exterior? Cool dash switches? I'd be interested to see.

Bags are so lame.
I have so much more respect for people slammed on coils than people who are on bags. 90% of the people I know with bags will only slam it for shows, meets and photoshoots, so the "low is a lifestyle" doesn't apply at all with bags. One of the respectable things about being static is that you are always that low, no matter what. It's all part of being low! Swerving pot holes and taking speed bumps is all part of the fun, but "just airing up" is lame as hell! Coils FTW.
Bags are an awesome concept, yes, but would I get them? No.

That being said, the MINIs that are on bags look amazing. I'd just rather be slammed with coils, than with air.

That seems kind of silly. It sounds like you're saying that bags aren't "extreme" or "hardcore" enough because people don't have to live with all the negatives of being LOW all the time. Doesn't that just make bags a smarter choice if your primary goal is do be able to slam it as low as possible, but you still want to use it as a DD? It sounds too expensive and complicated for my car, and I already have coilovers in the box waiting to be installed, but I'm having a hard time hating on bags. It seems like a pretty cool setup.

There's no truth to that. My preset daily height still tucks tire all around and is lower than 99.9% of the static minis out there (the exception probably being rayyyyy's). My scraped undercarriage can attest.

Here's my controller. It's connected to a "brain" that does all the adjustments and uses height sensors on each corner to determine the settings. 3 preset ride heights and independent control of the corners. It tucks away into the "secret compartment"

Rally, so good to have you share w/ everyone the masterpiece of a clubbie you have there. Bags aren't for everyone, but you've made yours practical. Always have been an admirer of you work & the attention to detail you put in. Plus, the wheel choices are always spot on....To the Mastah!

That's joust a boat load of negitive camber. Judging by eye, I would say in excess of 5 degrees. (I run 2.3* on my MINI, but it is done for performance not th achive the stanced out look.)

Rally is your high end bag of baloons kinda like the old Praxus air ride system?

I do appritiate the looks of a well done show car, and Rally's work is always amasing. Not really my thing but still amasing.

For some, it's an aesthetic thing. There's a desire for having a low, squat looking car and negative camber is part of that (see my car above).

With that said, that picture is just a photoshop job done to an extreme as a fun playful project. Everything about it has been overdone on purpose. It's not a real car.

That's probably way way more than 5 degrees. My clubman has -6 in the rear and it's not nearly as extreme as that cartoon styled picture.

Praxus had a rolling lobe system in their bags that mine lack which allowed their spring rate to actually increase as it got lower. I achieved a similar outcome with shorter bags as I couldn't source rolling lobe bags.

My system is made up of shortened struts (bilstein) that have been cut down and re-valved to perform well at the lowered ride height. I've been able to increase travel greatly over the stock setup which would often bottom out due to lack of travel. They really do perform great.

See, that's the respect that should be shown between car enthusiasts. We may not all focus on the same styling or practices, but in the end we share a passion for cars....whether it's a race car or a low cruiser, we're all enthusiasts.
