Suspension Rebuild CROSS Coilovers Before Selling, or Not?
Rebuild CROSS Coilovers Before Selling, or Not?
After about 65k miles, I'm removing the CROSS coilovers from my 2006 'S' and going back to stock (maybe some FSDs later).
These are the ones that go for about $2400 new. CROSS will rebuild them for $150 per corner, so $600 total.
They're not completely knackered, but with this many miles on them, they should probably be rebuilt before they go onto another car. The question is whether I should have it done before selling them, or leave it for the next owner.
Do you think that having them freshly rebuilt will help me get $600 more for them compared to selling them as-is? Also, what would be a fair price? I'm thinking $900 or so, as-is, which means I would want to get $1500 for them if I have them rebuilt before selling them.

65k miles on the coils is a lot. $1,500 for coils with that many miles on them is pretty steep IMO. I have been searching for CROSS coils for a while but thats a lot to swallow price-wise.
The $1500 would be if I had the factory rebuild them before I sold them. In that case, the coilovers would be basically new except for cosmetic wear, and $1500 is about $900 off of retail. CROSS is pricey, but don't forget that they also come with integral camber plates and adjustable endlinks.
If I don't have them rebuilt first, I'd probably ask $900 and would likely take a little less.

I hadn't heard anything about them being discontinued, but I'd be surprised if the factory couldn't rebuild them - I'm sure the soft parts that would be replaced during a rebuild aren't unique to this particular coilover configuration.
I see what you guys are saying about just letting the buyer decide if he wants to rebuild them. My only problem with that I'd hate to misrepresent them by mistake. What if there's a small leak that I don't know about, or one of the shafts has a slight bend to it that I didn't notice? If I have them rebuilt first, I'll have to charge more, but I'll be confident in being able to represent them as freshly-rebuilt, and the buyer can look at the pictures to see if they're okay with the cosmetics.
Of course, if someone is buying used coilovers for $800-900 that normally sell for $2400 new, they should probably expect to assume some risk. I guess I'll just make it clear that there are no guarantees, other than the coilovers being suitable for rebuilding.

Officaly Cross/JIC pulled out of the US. The original US supplier may or may not have parts left over to rebuild them.
How can you find out with the US supplier?
A company called Feal Suspension in Ontario, California might be able to rebuild them if you can't get a hold of JIC USA. Also, Performance Shock, Inc might be able to.
And either way, they'll be a lot better than the standard JIC/Cross valving IMO.
