Just looked up what coil binding is and from the sound of it, it does seem like I might have that issue. I didn't do the install so I don't know how all the parts go together and where to really start looking at the issue. Any recommendations? Seems like a lot of other people talk about a bearing. Where would that be located and how can it be fixed? Thanks!Originally Posted by Mindspin311
Popping noise is usually coil bind, right?

Look up "torrington" bearings sometimes known as needle bearings. You can also sometimes get away with just a thin washer on the perch with a bunch of grease. KW and ST can supply that at least.

Swift also makes what they call Thrust Sheets, its based off the thrust bearing principal. They are similar to torrington bearings.

Hey Mindspin, thanks for the suggestion but I just spoke with Customer Service at SwiftSprings and their thrust sheets won't fit the KW or ST coils. The ST coils are 61mm and it seems that its a proprietary size for them. No one makes a 61mm thrust sheet or bearing. The industry standard from what i was told are usually 60mm, 65mm and 70mm. Spoke to KW and they said they don't supply any plastic washers as well. Originally Posted by Mindspin311

Is there a video out there that shows how the coils are suppose to function/ move? I'm trying to get a better understanding of how all the parts are suppose to move, independently or together as a whole unit. When you are turning...Does the spring move around the perch that it sits on?

Call Racecomp Engineering. I work there part time. I know we have some KW/ST thrust sheets somewhere on the shelf. Just a plastic washer thing you load up with some grease.

Each of the front upper spring perches has a bearing seated within it which allows it to spin freely. This allows the spring to perform as it should within the suspension assembly.

does anyone have pics of these st coil overs almost all the way down? i want to get a set of coil overs that go nice and low for driving around, but when it comes time for the track they will perform better than my stock shocks and NM springs.

I just recently got a new set of ST coilovers installed on my R55. I really like the setup, although I think I have gone a little too low right now, so probably going to raise up about 0.5inches. I feel like I am getting a little bit of a bouncy ride. I have only had on for a couple of days and got the alignment done the same day of the installation. I have heard they take a couple of days to settle out, and was wondering if the bouncyness I am feeling is this happening and the car being slightly out of alignment. Anyone else had experience with this? Should I get the alignment checked or is the mild bouncyness a normal experience?

What is your center hub to fender measurement front and rear? Bounce from the rear or front?Originally Posted by Hendricksen

The suspension will settle over the next 100-300 miles. But that would be more of the height and not ride quality.

It is currently set pretty low, maybe 1 finger between the tire and the fender. I was planning on raising it up about a half an inch to give me a little more clearance. Do you think that would take care of the issue?

If the coilover is outside of the designed range yes it could result in poor ride quality.Originally Posted by Hendricksen

I think it is maybe just a little below the range. I am going to adjust higher over the weekend, so hopefully that will fix the little bounce I am feeling. Other than that, really enjoying the system so far.
Talk about bringing an old thread back to life :D. I started this post a few years ago and I still have them on my car. I haven't adjusted it once since I originally got it dialed in. The ride to me is firm not bouncy. I have 2 fingers of gap, I don't know what the measurements are.
I still love them and would recommend them to anyone.

I was looking for a little advice. I went to tighten my set screw on my ST Coilovers last night, but very very gentle not to over tighten, but the plastic threading ended up stripping anyway. I was wondering who has experienced a similar situation and if I went with a one size bigger set crew, would this fix my problem. The coilovers are still running fine and do not notice any movement in height adjustment, but wanted to make sure this was not an ongoing issue.

By the way, I adjusted into the designed range and that has fixed the bounce that I was feeling. I had them about a half inch too low.

Guys,
I have been doing some reading and have seen where some suggest using a hose clamp on the bottom part of the adjustment, where the set screw is, to secure the collar from movement. Has anyone tried this? If, so how affective has it been? I can see the logic behind using the hose clamp and think that should work.
Thanks for any input on this.

I stripped mine on install. I've had it that way for almost 4 years now and no problems. I only have 22K miles on my MINI though. But still, no problems.Originally Posted by Hendricksen

Guys,
quick question on the ST's. I just received my ST XTA's and am just starting to play around with them. So far they look awesome, however one thing worries me... Is the rebound adjustment supposed to click or is it set by the amount of turns? Because mine definitely do not click in any way when adjusting!
Thanks for your help!

Can rear ride height be adjusted when they're already installed? I have these on my coupe and they're rubbing slightly in the back.
I want to raise them up a tiny bit in the rear and not to sure how to adjust them myself.

Just so you are aware, I had mine set up with a 1 finger gap and according to ST my coils were set way to high. When I needed them serviced, they did not cover the repair, cost me $400 with shipping. What made this whole thing ridiculous to me was that my rear coils were already bottoming out and according to ST, it was set up way too high.
I recommend that you go through your instructions and adjust them accordingly, regardless if you do need them rebuilt, don't expect ST to cover it.
Personally I think that ST is a horrible company, when the time comes to warranty their product, they make up an excuse to do so.
