TD Pro Race 1.2 17 x 8 it is!!!

Last week I had a long road trip up to MI (from FL) and on the pieces of nice highway I could feel a "wobble" in the rims/tires. So when I got to MI I had them checked out and it turned out that my right to rims were bend (prob due to a pothole I hit a while ago) and the tires had started to become egg shaped because of that, and to make matters worse the rears were already bad! So I was looking at 2 new rims and 3 new tires!

I have always loved the look of the Team Dynamics wheels so I figured why not... The original wheels are to high priced anyways and those annoying run flats I don't like at all so the decision was made that the TD's should replace them! I was on the phone with the people of Outmotoring (thank you guys!) the best part of the morning/afternoon but they are on their way!

I picked the 17 x 8 matte black wheels with Yokohama 225/35 tires on it! Just to see how it looks, I can always go for a different set of tires the next time! They will be here on Friday so I'll try and put pictures up this weekend or next week somewhere!!

So excited!!!! Haha!

You bent a wheel so you bought new ones and mounted the thinest rubber you could find on them? I hope the ironic doesn't happen.

Well it's not everyday I run into a pothole with 85 mph... And I could have put 45 on there but I'll just see how the 35 work out first!

I have bent a few rims already and that is with 45 series rubber. The last one at 30-40 mph. Looking down on the road surface all the time when driving is no way to have fun with the Mini.

Crap... So 225/45 is a better idea?! Because I'll order them now so I have them in on time!

It's not going to look like a balloon tire right?!

UPDATE: Talking to the guys at tire rack and they recommended a 215/45... So I'm going with that for now! Thank you guys for talking me out of the 35!

Thanks slinger! Just called Alex and the 215 should be good! The only thing that I might have to do is dremel the bumper brackets just a little bit... But as he said that lowering helps with clearance a lot, I might just order the NM springs for now until I can get the KW Clubsports...!

Did you notice a difference in performance and handling?

Well handling wise it really sticks a lot more than the 195 tires so that's a plus! Now I got those NM springs on the car it really corners nice...!!

The TD's have proven to be good rims though, took multiple road trips (read: highways with potholes) with them and they're still straight

sorry to revive an oldish thread but I am looking to get these wheels. What hub bore did you get? I was wanting 56.1 but outmotoring.com is telling me they only have 56.7 @ 38mm offset.

Any body know if that will make any difference? will 38mm offset fit over JCW brakes?

Hey Dez,

The bore is fine, basically its only half a mm wider... I've had them on for a year so far, no problems at all! I have no clue whether they will fit over the JCW's but if they fit over a std. mini rim with a higher offset, my guess is that they will easily clear with the TD's!

Hope it helps

Thanks Guys.

So Alwyn, you have the 56.7 bore?

I think I need 45 mm offset to clear the JCW brakes.. but can't find definitive answer for the TD 17 x 8... still searching....

Outmotoring's website says 17 x 7 require 45mm offset to clear JCW brakes so I would imagine it would be the same for 17 x 8

Yea I have the 56.7 and it's fine so don't worry about it...

The lower offset should be fine for your brakes then, if still in doubt just call outmotoring maybe they can provide you with some more info but if I look at my standard brake setup now there is plenty of room to spare!

Outmotoring says the 38mm offset will work over the JCW brakes. Order placed... can't wait to get them!

Looks great Dez!! I'm loving the all black theme of the car... You got plenty of clearance with the brakes right?

yep, plenty of clearance. The 38 mm offset really pushes the wheels out quite a bit and looks great.

Hope folks don't mind me resurrecting this thread...

dez -- the TDs look great -- I assume these are 17x8s? And what tire size are you running?

Thanks!

Hey Blammo,

I'm running the 215/45/17... Fits perfectly on the rim and no issues of rubbing! Seriously great wheels, have had no problems with them whatsoever!
