H&R Sport Cup Suspension Kit

I have been thinking hard about lowering my 08 MCS. Of course Money is an issue. I plan on also doing a brake upgrade in the near future. I am considering H&R's Sport Cup Suspension Kit. I only street drive my Mini. I don't plan on tracking it, but who knows

I have a couple of questions?

1.) How hard is it to install yourself? I feel confident wrenching on my vehicle as long as I don't go into the motor or tranny. Anything outside is fair game.

2.) Is a 2" drop to radical? I do occasionally take my wife and younger daughter. My question is "will it rub"? I will be running my stock R98 web spokes for awhile. I plan on going with a 215/45/17 tire replacement when needed.

3.) Will I need wheel spacers. I plan on keeping my stock brake calibers for now. I plan on changing the rotors, pads and brake lines. I don't mind running them if they give me a better stance.

Thanks in Advanced. AXO

For the kind of money you are looking to spend on that cup kit you could buy coilovers.

BC racing coilovers are only $100 more and for that you get ajustable height, dampening and camber.

Install is easy. There should be something in the DIY section.

If you have any itch to track the car, buy decent quality parts (not the usual stuff mentioned) otherwise you will be swapping them out after a few track days or worse breaking them while on the track.

1) You can do it yourself, takes about 2.5 hours or so. Best to have a lift.
2) 2" drop is a lot and better to keep it around 1.2" to 1.4". There is lots more potential for rub with a big drop along with other issues such as vibration etc.
3) most likely not needed with 215's. You can just change the pad if you street and do not need to do the rest.

2 inches is a LOT. The shock will essentially be bottomed out at rest.

Where are you finding BCs for $100 more? Just curious because I'm in the same boat; looking @ the Sport Cup kit for budget. Tire Rack has the kit for $687, so I'm curious where you're finding coilovers for ~$800. If so, I'm in for the BCs!

Thanks Creeve!

Ohh sorry, saw the cup kit listed for $900 on outmotoring.

But yes coilovers can be had for $800ish. BC Racing are $1000. Vmaxx are $700. Megans are $900. ksport are $950

I am also a firm believer in buying used in the right condition. I got my BC coils with 3k miles for $400 plus my stock suspension.

^ Yes, and I would prefer stock to Vmaxx and K Sport. Just because they are a coilover doesn't mean they are any good. Coilovers aren't automatically better than anything else.

I went with the H&R Touring Cup Kit. Didn't want to drop 2 inches. 1.5" was good enough. Haven't got them on yet, because I don't have the car yet....lol. Got mine for $718 from Velocity Motorsports.

This is a daily driver and not a track car so that's why I went with this setup as opposed to coilovers. My fear with coilovers is that I'll be wanting to adjust them all of the time.

Anyone have pics of their Sport or Touring Cup kit installed? Would love to see the effect of either/both.
