WHOAH! Fantastic new suspension additions!

So I went to Mini Corsa and had him install the Hotchkis 19mm rear sway bar and Madness polyurethane front control arm bushings.

Now THIS is how a Clubman S should feel! Tight and direct steering, barely any leaning in turns, and now I know why good drivers don't like understeer -- with the rear sway bar in the middle setting, oversteer is now more present and is positively delicious. I'm LOVING these additions. With the Koni FSDs and these two new items, I feel like my MINI is now ready to take on anyone, handling-wise.

EDIT: Torque steer is lessened a tiny bit, though it's still there of course. Bump steer has not been helped at all. These two things are just what one has to accept in a MINI.

Just thought I'd share for those who might be on the fence with either or both of these things.

get those squidgy Powerflexes out and get some spherical bearings

Doesn't minimania make them? I think they might come with lighter FLCA

Mini Madness

discontinued the front control arms, and they were a 1st gen part. The powerflex units are fine. The stock ones suck.

Haha, you could spend almost 100 grand on mods for your MINI before buying that boat.

How noticable an increase in road vibrations/road noise did you experience from the bushing changes?

What would you rather have , a 130,000 dollar Mini or a 130,000 dollar Porsche ?

as soon as the Turbo S comes out I will send the mini across the pond to keep the GT3 company.

$130,000 MINI

My cousin had Powerflex LCA bushes installed in his R53, no change in NVH

No wait, a $130,000 Mini, a $130,000 Porsche, or a $130,000 Panamera?

I have truly not noticed any difference in NVH with the new bushings. There are no negatives to be had for me.

I was hoping for better control of MINI bump steer, but unfortunately that didn't happen beyond a very subtle difference. I guess MINIs are just not very well designed as far as that's concerned.

I'd take a $130,000 Kia Accent over a Panamera. Is that an option?

This is going off topic a bit.

When the Panamera came out, I too hated it. But at the SF Auto Show, I got to spend a bunch of time in the car. It's really, really well done. You'd be shocked at how much rear space is in the car. No, it's not a 911 or a Cayman, but for what it is, it's shockingly good.

I had a few people tell me that bump steer would be noticeably reduced with these bushings, but I found that to not really be case (again, just a very subtle difference). Most people were not speaking very highly of the Alta PSRS bushings, in comparison to the polyurethane ones, when I asked.

Really? What are the sort of things being said?

I erased the other messages I had, but this one was still in my box, from a fellow member here:

"Stay away from the problematic Alta PSRS as the poly bushings do the same job without the constant rattles and harshness of the Alta crap. The poly bushings were not available when I had the PSRS installed and I sure wish they were around then. I consider the Altas a liability now."

That's annoying, I hadn't heard anything but rave reviews of them from people that I consider MINI gurus (eg. Ryephile and Dr. Obnxs).

Thanks for your input though, I appreciate it. My PSRS are going in tomorrow, I hope my experience will be better. (I don't have access to a welder unfortunately, so I won't be able to tack weld the sleeve to the control arm, which I've heard helps things)

Perhaps these members installed/had them installed improperly? I dunno. What I do know is that the Madness poly bushings are truly fantastic on my car and don't require any welding to install. I can't compare personally since I've never used the PSRS bushings myself.

To continue this thread-within-a-thread... I also hated it - until I saw one in the flesh at Mandalay Bay last month. Love at first (real) sight.

And, yeah, swaybar + bushings are goodness. Just need camber plates for ultra-goodness.

I'd say a one-of-a-kind MINI, but I wouldn't spend $130,000 on one car even if I had the money, but that's just me.

I bet

that if you did have the money, you'd think differently.
