spacers and lug bolt conversions... a few questions

I have a general idea as to why someone would want to buy spacers for their car. correct me if i am wrong.

for one, if you purchase wheels that are fat, you dont want them to rub so you add spacers. Also, if you upgrade your suspension, a way to prevent rubbage is also to use spacers. spacers also lengthen your "stance" placing your wheels further apart from each other possibly helping with cornering?

this is all great but.... my question is

Is there a way to buy a spacer that converts the mini 4 by 100 lug bolt pattern to a 5 bolt pattern? I feel this will give a lot more flexability for consumers to purchase more types of wheels without being restricted by lug bolt patterns.

in particular, im looking for a reputable company that converts the 4x100 to 5x100

spacers go between the rotor and your wheel, effectively moving the wheel outward from the car. i needed a 5mm spacer after installing coilovers because the tire was rubbing against the strut body. your rotors and hub are set up for 4x100. spacers have nothing to do with 4 vs. 5x100, although if you go to 5x100 (and i don't think you need to, many here tracking and autocrossing with 4x100) you will need spacers that accommodate that arrangement.

H&R makes 4x100 to Porsche lug bolt size, but if you happen to find a 4x100 to 5x100 adapter, please let us know!

There are bunch of companies that will custom make you a 4x100->5x100....you just have to use shortened-head hardware. Finding someone with that hardware in the R56 thread pitch is difficult but possible. Most of the average NAM users won't have the guts to run them though because the holes do have to overlap a bit. I'm not sure on the safety but it's probably fine.

I echo what the others have said....unless you are looking for a super rare wheel, you can generally find it in 4x100 or just have the wheel re-drilled to 4x100 (that's what I did)

What is the max thickness (width) they can be? I did some figuring and 4x100 to 5x100 is real close. Two holes almost overlap but maybe doable. The thicker the adapter is, the better.

Max? I'm not sure there really is a max really. Minimum is generally 25mm, but some can go down to 18mm or maybe 15mm. Max is only limited by the offset of your wheel and eventually rubbing on the arches.

I'm not sure about that...
I think konky, midnite, jeff, and I are the only ones on M|U who've run 5 lug wheels.

If i want to add spacers just to improve my stance front and rear, what is the maximum i can use? and what do people recommend? I am on R57 Flame spokes with 215/40-R17 tyres and lowered on H&R springs.

4 lug to 5 lug single piece adapters are hard to come by. In all honesty, I don't think I've ever seen one. Usually, you'll need a 2 piece adapter to accomplish this. But minimum total thickness of the 2 pieces together will be around 40mm. Not very practical unless you're using a relatively narrow wheel with a very high offset.

Hey Rally... How'd you run the 5 lug? Did you do a conversion or use an adapter?

I converted the wheels to 4x100 because I didn't want the added offset of adapters to interfere with the depth of possible lip choices.

Ben-ja-min , I am running H&R 15mm spacers on front and read. You won't have any rubbing issues with these. I took the wheels offsets on the Hammon Mini's wheels as a template of stance and calculated my factory crown wheels offset and add the spacers to make it the same offset as the Hammon 18x8.5 wheels. Looks great.

Would it possible to engineer a solution using f56 wheel hubs
5 x112 and all the metal you need to drill for a 5x110

Expensive, but if they need a refresh anyway....?

hi Blue AL,

do you know if the F56 fit R56 without any modification? I dont mind having a 5x112 PCD. 4x100 is so restricted with aftermarket wheel.

Anyone can help. Thanks.

I have seen adapters on eBay, but I would be weary about them I would prefer to change the R56 hub to the F56 5x112. A LOT more wheel choices in 18" w/ that bolt pattern.
